The Covid effect.

The honest truth is that I enjoy all of my friends and family in NJ. You could pay me 1 million bucks to move back here but my current compensation is less than 1/3 of what it would require for me to move my family back. I enjoy the diversity of mountain bike trails in New Jersey. I enjoy some of the road riding up north down south and out west. I enjoy all of my riding buddies. I’m not even against anyone that personally wants to stay here or says that they enjoy NJ. Personally, having been on the other side now realize how much greener the grass is as far as quality of life for my family. Yes I made a decision to move, and maybe overlooked salary and compensation. I am human. The truth is most people I talk to cannot wait to get out of NJ. But if you put them on the spot in an Internet for him they get very defensive. Understandable, it is a New Jersey mountain bike forum. The opposite of my situation is a guy like Utah. He seems very content with staying in a smaller house, paying off his bills and having great trails across the street, I think my previous area of Hazlet, which is in the Area of Hartshorne and Huber got way over populated way too fast and drastically affected the road riding and trail systems. Even my commute got worse by a longshot. I really have no ill intent with this post, but I will state my opinion, and even defend my opinion. I’ve had people that have posted on this thread that really did not care other than to bully me for the last eight years with their Internet power. That shows the person they are am I a hypocrite for looking forward to Wednesday night chimney rock ride? I don’t think so. And anyone that knows me knows that my online voice and opinion are strong I am a hypocrite to an extent as well, as I always thought that someone working in end NYC was nuts for living on the border of Pennsylvania. I still do not think I am wrong with those thoughts as the commute has not got any better in the last 10 to 15 years. if anything, it is far worse. In the end, the voices that have shown an opinion here support my general theory. People are in NJ for the money and benefits. If the money and benefits were not here, they probably would not live here.

ya @UtahJoe is a freaking IDIOT

I was in Charlotte last November. Other than the major freeways, it felt every road was a 2 lane road with no shoulder and driveways every 10 ft. And 4 way stops every 10. IMHO driving there sucked.
yes, inside 485 is a disaster to get around. south charlotte is as confusing as can be as the road will just randomly split and you are going another direction on a road with a different name but you never turned

I’m just wondering when the chimney rock hammer ride is gonna start again… asking for a friend …😁🙄
Dude. Me too. The rain ain’t helping. I was hoping for the Wednesday after DST (next Wednesday) but there’s no way the park will be rideable in the foreseeable future. I’ll make sure you’re in the loop.

I honestly can say I don't know a single person who has said that. I love my spot in Middletown. My neighbors are not in my business and also not jerks. They tolerate my occasionally noisy shenanigans (I hope they realize I try to be considerate). Yeah, sometimes it's a bit crowded but our extended cycling group is just the best. Most of them grew up in the area (I transplanted from Baltimore in '94 but grew up in Hackettstown) or their spouses did and do not seem inclined to leave. My wife has an equally great group of running friends. The cast of characters I've met with my motorcycle at the track are fun too, and of course the Car Nuts I hang with when I'm not playing with 2 wheel toys.

I think having a group of people I enjoy being around is more important than the bill for lunch or how much my house cost per sq ft. or how much traffic there is.

Like I said, people can be happy here. It’s also a different conversation if you work from home or close to home but if you do any commute in New Jersey, it pretty much sucks. I grew up in New Jersey, road dirt bikes in my backyard and all over New Jersey, did the whole thing for years on end, etc. Try to go to the track and ride a dirtbike in New Jersey now you’re limited to two overly populated tracks. Field of dreams, and Englishtown, this isn’t about friends, as I have friends in New Jersey, and Maryland, even PA for that matter. You’ll find a good group of friends wherever you go do I miss riding with you, Dan, Danny, Tony, Dan, etc.? Sure. At the same time it’s not enough to keep me around , maybe it would be a different story if I had purchased my parents house in Pottersville but I didn’t. No chance of ever living there has a house across the street has now sold for 1.5 million can you answer me with a straight face and say that part and Hubert are not Completely congested with hikers if you don’t go there at six in the morning?

My shop is closed on Wednesdays so I always get a ride in during the middle of the day. Sure, during lockdown it was crowded. Before lockdown and again now, I'm all by myself in the woods. Doesn't matter where I ride. Seems like everyone has gone back to work.

I ride three days a week - legally- on a 50 State Street Legal Bike. 5200 miles this year, mostly all off road - in NJ.

I don’t think anyone is making fun of you - the underlying laughter/tension comes from the fact that this is about the 10,000th post you made that covers the following over the last three years:
  • NJ is awful
  • people from the city ruined your life
  • The economy is going to crash tomorrow (going on three years)
  • We are idiots for not moving out of NJ
  • Everyone wants to leave NJ (waiting for you to introduce these people)
  • NJ is the route of all evil
  • NJ sold out
  • The restaurants that suck near the shore don’t have availability for me or want me to wait
Yet you are now commuting ridiculous hours and being away from your family for days on a time (as well as your awesome new home in your unbelievable out of NJ town) to gasp - work in NJ in an area (using your words here - but paraphrased) in a crime ridden area.

NJ is going to put a restraining order on you soon as you sound like an abussive boyfriend. I love you Dave, but this is getting ridiculous.

I may have to take a break after this from responding to DT posts. If I could I would give you a big hug.IMG_0054.jpeg

I don't think any of the things on your post about leaving in southern NJ. Actually I voted for succession from northern Nj in 1976..... Because we like 76ers, Eagles and the phillies. Ok light it up...............
