The Heckle Report

In the drops Saturday at KMC on the hill! Guess who had brakes the whole race! This guy.

Incorrect.

Correct.

Very correct.
OH SHIT! KEITH GARRISON SIGHTING!

I don't think I could have done that much faster. I guess I could have really sent it but easily could have ended up on the ground. I'm still thinking about how fun that off camber hill stuff was on Saturday. Hurt much more running up Sunday, but still reasonably fun.

I'm punching above my weight here but I LIKED the run-up, because I knew it was just gonna be piloting for the next 45 seconds or so. And in my class, in my section OF that class, there was time gained by avoiding D'OH moments; anticipating someone starting high on the off camber, blowing it and slewing across your line, being in the proper gear for exit, stuff like that. I loved that section.

This sort of scenario merits a discussion of its own as a "CX skills" thread. A significant part of race course management is putting yourself in position to not be penalized by the other guy's screw-ups.

Gloucester 2016 Weekend Pre-View

WOAH! Man, it’s weird having the weekends shuffled. Gloucester has always been the weekend before KMC/Providence opening up holy week with Night Weasels in between for which I would tag on Cross-Cation with Zach-o. Well, Zach moved, Gloucester is 10/15-16, KMC left Providence for Thompson, CT and night Weasels was the Wednesday after KMC.

Everything is different. Nothing will ever be the same, but that’s okay. I did miss Cross-Cation but I was out of days anyway.

G*! (Gloucester)

We will be facing dry conditions for yet another year. I guess it was moist an misty for the 8:00am race in 2013 but that was a far reach from ‘Wet’ CX. For a change it will at least be cool and dusty instead of HOT AS FIRE and dusty.

Another bonkers strong field, though not as deep with the strong dudes as KMC. KMC had 30 dudes with UCI points line up and G* only has 19 pre-reg’d. This means 5 lucky mortal humans will be ‘randomly’ awarded a cushy 3rd row call up! The field is my biggest UCI yet with 72 pre-reg’d racers.

and then there's me.

Much of the same on Sunday, minus JPow who only ever races 1 day of G*.

On the ladies end here's what we're looking at:

It would be awesome to see a pepper podium!

General feels:
I've traveled 3400 miles this week so far and already slept in three different beds since Saturday. I was in FL for a conference but luckily made it home for my workout last night and maybe could have used for a couple more hours this past weekend but for my buddy Tim's wedding I happily missed ride time.

I'm definitely nervous but love the venue and the event. The start is kinda rough / sketch with a fast asphalt hole shot corner. The start will be everything and with a estimated 7 minute laps it's going to take a miracle to make lead lap but I'll be slugging to do my best and fight the mental pain threshold barrier which is where I was skating at the end of KMC.

Outlook positive, as always, though realistic. Looking forward to roast beef at Supreme's and possibly making some sort of ultra mini insta movie.

Creative energy.
I have some ideas that I'm hoping to put into action this weekend. Keeping the target low with a ~1 minute movie but hopefully I'll have time to capture the media I need.

I feel like the last good CX weather race in the tri-state area was Whirlybird two years ago...

But, you're mostly right. I think Whirly '14 takes the cake for muddiest mud fest I've raced in the MAC area.
