The Heckle Report

Heckling high water mark. I think I got my whole first in @Norm 's mouth.

So happy this weekend is over.

So, so tired.

Friday work->jog->paint->paint->paint

Saturday ride->move->move->move

Sunday SLEEP->ride->eat->eat->eat

Got very dehydrated Saturday. Between the ride and 8 hours of moving crap. My ride was pretty rough on Saturday and wasn't very good Sunday either. Need more sleep and need to get back on top of taking care of myself. Gotta get to the food store tonight.

Doing some final cleaning at the old APT, giving up my keys and finally wrapping up this hell week.

ya, the ride almost seems counter productive at that point, better off just hydrating and sleeping. but it feels like you are missing out on gains if you do not ride

What happens to the thing we know as @Dutch Frog & @The Heckler

Divorced.

Did my first set of 5x5's yesterday, ouch.

I think my closest 5 minute hill is Schoolhouse, unfortunately I DON'T LIVE IN MORRISTOWN ANYMORE. So I brought the bike to work and parked by the Loantaka path in Madison/Chatham. Warmed up, some tempo and BAM Schoolhouse.

On my second descent I see a dude on a recumbent trike with no helmet cruising on Washington Valley Road, he turns right up Schoolhouse making a very casual pace up the road.

FAST-FORWARD
Interval #5- I come up on recumbent trike guy to pass for the 3rd time. HOMIE IS SMOKING A CIGARETTE.

I basically lose the ability to pedal my bike for a few seconds and almost get off altogether. I've seen this guy before, I've even seen him riding and smoking before, but up Schoolhouse?? Dag.

5x5's though, ouch man, ouch...

In other news
my buddy Ty's bike got run over last night. THANKFULLY he wasn't on it - it was post WW and he was helping take down the course. His bike was next to (not on) a private road and the person driving was not affiliated with the event. Despite yelling "STOP!!" the driver didn't stop/see the bike, ran it over and still and blamed Ty for the event. Super unstoked on that news.

IN EVEN MORE NEWS
My first race is Sunday! No Silk City, just Riverfront in Hartford. P1/2/3 and maybe???? SS, though my new rear rim just shipped from china. I may be able to still just run the old rim and tire, I raced it broken for a few weeks last year, lol. Otherwise I guess I can ride a clincher. It may be worth gluing my front now though! (Wheels for the geared bike will be glued and ready for Sunday, this is the disc gear I'm talking about.)

When I ran into you last night and you said something about the cool down ride to get home, I was assuming you were riding to Warren. I'm slightly less impressed now knowing you were parked in Loantaka...

Btw, have you done training rides on the new gravel trails at Giralda right by where we ran into each other? I would think that would be a good spot for the cross bike. Gravel loops with minimal foot traffic.

I've tooled around on a couple side trails, I don't know how much of the stuff I was on was new new. There is a trail that runs across the brook with some 1 track on the other side, I haven't ridden the brook yet but explored around to that back side, kinda dead ends in someones back yard.

Yes. For sure. You need to constantly remind yourself recovery is when you're getting stronger. Keep pushing it and you'll never make the gains.

When you cross over the road from where we ran into each other (the direction I was going) there is a newish (this year?) entrance to the new trails that are all gravel. They're all within Giralda Farms land. I believe it's two loops. Not that long, but they're loops so I guess infinitely long.

You're correct. The gravel trails within Giralda Farms are new.... Be careful about tics in there.

OH! Yes, I was looking at them across the road wondering how long they have been there. Haven't ridden yet, will have to scope out.

This day in Heckle-History (as per facebook)
Following a steamy season racing cat 4/5 and a late upgrade to Cat 3, 2014 opened up to another full schedule autumn. Having no MAC points from 2013 I lined up at Nittany towards the back sporting numbers in the 370's. Much work was done and I fought up to finish 26th and 23rd which scored enough MAC points for a 2nd row call up at Charm City.

Shown here day two dismounting for the logs with a still Jersey resident @pearl hot on my heels.

"4th (or 5th) lap Heckler ends up closing on me. I give him the one finger salute as we pass the S/F (bad idea) and let him settle in behind me. He is able to motor by me around the basketball courts, but I get on his wheel. He ends up dismounting for the log, and I call him a F’ing Roadie, but I barely gain any time on him."

I remember it like it was yesterday 🙁

NOW YOU'RE TOO FAST FOR US
