Primo snow conditions at WACO. Cleaned afghan chunk in the CW direction for the first time that i can remember. There are 2-3 tricky spots and i always seem to dab one of them on every pass. Warmest morning of the last few weeks, felt good

So after yesterdays indoor ride my legs were pretty beat and tight. Spent an hour in the recovery boots last night to see if I could loosen up and ride with a few buddies on the Columbia trail. Took a chance that the snow cover was rideable and it was gripping packed powder snow nearly the whole way. Not sure I ever did a ride like that before it almost made the trail more smooth in some parts and it even covered up the usual icy spots to the point they were not slippery. A lot of this had to do with the timing since we left at 9am when it was still colder and a little less sunny. On the way back more spots were melted to the trail than on the way out.

During our pit stop at Martys Highbridge store I got lucky to notice one of the bolts that holds the Garmin varia mount under my saddle had fallen out so was able to get a replacement.

The way back got a little windy and then in long valley we stopped to help a guy with a flat as his CO2 inflator wasn’t working. Sent him on his way and then did some loops to round up to 190 miles for the week. A little less wind and I would have stayed out longer but after a long day yesterday I was tired and hungry. Came home and made this 3 egg frittata in the microwave and destroyed it within about 60 seconds.

Funny how 35-40F seems nice out ! Great winter day for riding.

Did we pass each other on the RR trestle above Cokesbury Rd?

I thought another "incident" was about to happen this morning. Honestly it comes as no surprise given the optics of a dude wearing a full face helmet riding up and down the street during the wee hours. This is basically prime content for the Neighbors app.

So there I was doing my thing. I turned down a street where traffic cannot enter. In my peripheral I saw another biker across the intersection. Within earshot I hear, "HEY! HEY!" I ignored it thinking it was locals talking to each other. But my Varia starts going off like an angry wife blowing up my phone. I think to myself that cars can't come down this road--So is this dude on the bike chasing me down?

I look back. Fuck, he is. What does he want?! Wait...It's JimV. Phew! Hours later we were married and the rest is history.

You're super lucky, I keep one of my trained Trash Pandas right behind George Clinton. The Hey, Hey was actually to call him off, not to get your attention.

While I agree it felt colder than advertised I wanted to get one more outdoor ride in before the weather really goes to shit after today. Grabbed the gravel bike again because it was the most easily accessible since I had a limited time window during wfh meetings.

Amazing how about 24 hours prior the whole trail was covered in snow and nearly all of it was gone today. For the most part the trail was also surprisingly dry too and it was nice not to have to dodge too many other people like yesterday.

On the way back home riding through my neighborhood I saw a guy trying to chase down a loose little dog. Decided I could try and help and turned around to ask. We managed to move him towards the fences between two houses and then when I got down low and made the friendly dog calling noises he basically ran right over to me. Aside from being cold and scared he seemed fine. Animal control then pulled up turns out they were in the neighborhood trying to get him so I sent him off safe and sound. No pics but he was probably like a little Bichon breed with a white fluffy coat. Hopefully he gets back to his owner.

Took pics of the cows grazing at my turnaround spot.
