The Not BIYF January Ride Thread

So my plans for a day off work outdoor metric gravel ride got a little complicated by the snow last night and this morning and since I couldn’t ride later in the day I took what I could get which somehow ended up an indoor metric.

Consumed 3 water bottles, a Gatorade, 2 nutrigrain bars, 1 PBJ uncrustables and a pack of BelVita snack cookies. Watched 2 different movies on Prime which weren’t great but made the time pass. Changed my jersey 3 times and bibs once. And yes the fan was on high I just sweat a lot indoors.

And while I thought I picked a flat route to ride around it dumped me on the Jarvis loop and I did that climb like 17 times. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hopefully back outside tmw before the rain comes in probably the last day to ride outdoors for a while unless you have a Fatbike and like negative temps.

Todays plan was beat the rain. Met up around 9:30 with the local crew and we hit the Columbia trail again just in case we got caught out it’s better to be on gravel tires. We checked the radar in Califon and it looked good to go all the way to Highbridge and back. Was a bit damp kinda cold but the trail is always less chilly. With about 5 miles to go heading back a little flurry quickly turned into a snow squall and was coming down pretty good for a bit. Glad it was just snow and not frozen rain we had no issues on the trail being slippery. I was actually smiling more because it was kinda fun to ride in the snow coming down. But I would not have been smiling if we were 15 miles away LOL.

The frozen rain started the last 1 mile of roads we take to get back home but again no issues since the roads already have so much salt.

Stopped for some cool ice flow pics. Always satisfying to beat the weather. Get those fat bikes ready for tmw ill be back on zwift.

Grew up in Staten Island bucket list to do a ride from nj to there and back now that the bridges are rideable.

There is actually a whole bunch of trails there that you can probably interconnect. They are small parks and isn't worth the effort to ride alone, but if you interconnect them, you may be able to get a decent ride.
