After another morning of indecisiveness among the group I was all set to head to bedminster for some gravel and then I heard back there was many icy spots. Changed plans and drove over to the Columbia trail
With the MTB which is weird for me because I pretty much never drive over. But with the wind and figuring i needed to air down the tires for the snow I just threw the bike in the back.

I was hoping for the best because I had seen clearly the parks commission groomed the middle of the trail. But once I got going it wasn’t that great but I decided It was still better than zwift. After 4 miles and like 25 minutes I made it to coffee potter felt like 20 miles. Decided to try and keep going to make
It an hour out and hour back. Glad I did because for the next 3-4 miles I was able to ride in the car tracks of what they drove to groom the trail is was nice and compact. Without that i would have very likely turned around.

While at some points I was like why did I do this as usual when I was done I was glad I did. Could have done without the broken spoke with 3 miles to go but the wheel wasn’t even that wobbly after I fixed it.

Was expecting a quick hour ride before other Sunday activities, and ended up spending about 3+ hours in the woods.

First I randomly ran into @thegock , first time there. We struck up great conversation and I realized we should probably ride and chat, which we did. We had a great time making jokes about @Mitch and @Frank , with a lil @pooriggy humor mixed in.

After dropping Tom off at the lot so he could get back to Taylor Ham Land to handle some family biz, I dropped back in to start my typical loop. Coming up Tree Root Climb I catch Jenny taking a selfie and scoot in for the photobomb.

We rode together for a bit and caught up on all things kids related, bathroom remodeling, etc.

After Jenny split off I went back into cruise mode since the snow was primo 👌. Came upon a hiker/photography looking at a map and stopped to see if he needed directions (which he did). Turns out it was Rich Bowman, used to be a roadie and mtber. I should have snapped a selfie with him, great guy. We have some very close friends in common as well.

After chatting with Rich for the better part of the afternoon I decided to add another ~20 minutes to my ride so my 4+ hours away from home had slightly closer to 2 hours of riding time to show for it 🤣

Was gonna zwift but got coaxed into riding outside in the wind with the local WFH crew. When it wasn’t windy it was actually nicer out than I thought it would be - cold but not frigid. We should have better thought out our ride plan because the tailwind out was fun but the wall of headwind on the way back for 10 miles was not.

Decided I need a few more balaclavas in my winter gear it keeps me much warmer than a separate hat and neck/face gaiter.

I had the alarm set for 5:50 AM and planned 1:30 ride time since today is an office day, but hit cancel instead of snooze so got a late start. This is where having to meet with folks on west coast times works to my advantage sometimes because I have some more wiggle room time wise in the mornings. Did a brainless low effort easy spin while watching Youtube videos (about cycling of course) because my legs are pretty tired these days while I try to log as much time as possible to place top 3 in the Marty's 31 days/31 hours challenge.
