It's on my radar, but I'm non-committal for now. My new Vassago 29er frame is 27.5+ compatible, but my current fork is not. A 2.4 tire is already tight on my Carbine, so I don't see a Plus tire fitting at all.

Plus, I'm not a "one bike trying to do everything" kind of guy, so a full-on fat bike is more likely than some kind of "in between" bike. I like having many bikes set up to do specific types of riding.

Seriously considering the horsethief C for this reason - assuming it is (as the website says) 29 or 27.5 compatible

didn't notice it on the website but would be surprised if they did, that's not going to help them sell more bikes
If it is, that's a good option to get some more volume as the park dictates. Are there significant geometry differences between a 29r frame vs a 27.5+? I'd expect the 27.5 vs 27.5+ though

Again from the website the horsethief and pony rustler are the same bike - one set up as 29, the other 27.5+

PS if you look at the same frame/build set, the PR is 2 lbs heavier than the HT, so I guess that's the additional weight of the wheelset - primarily the tires?

jdog, sign me up for an XL GX 2X10 hopefully with an uncut steertube.
I did some gear calculation , and the 1x just don't have a low enough granny for me to haul those tires up a steep hill.
I passed the message on to salsa. I will let you know the answer.

I hope those dudes are about 4' tall and those aren't 49er wheels...
As far as 27.5, I drank the coolAid, after seeing the new specialized 6fattie bikes at a shop, did some research and had Jim Vreeland test fit the wheels of the 6fattie bikes onto my specialized enduro 29er and they fit, so I ordered up some 38mm wheels and some specialized 3" purgatory tires. Beats buying a whole new bike! There's a whole thread on mtbr of existing 29er bikes that will take a 650b+ tire, not all will take a 3" but some will fit the 2.8 offerings from WTB and the likes.

I'm still waiting to buy a bike with rear suspension o_o
You know you won't... you like that ss steel tank feel between your legs too much. I never understood why people would choose (if it wasnt a budget issue) to ride hardtail ecpecially at a place like lewmo over thousands of roots when suspension bikes are so much more comfortable, and then it dawned on me after I rode your bike for 1 minute, you just like the way that steel frame rattles your lady parts down there 🙂

im addicted to the simplicity of it 🙂 as much as i love the tech and the hype of mountain biking the simplicity and freedom of just being on two wheels is what keeps me coming back. I think we talked about it on our last ride, but like we said, if it isn't fun anymore whats the reason to keep doing it. so lets just keep it fun.

at the end of the day a fancy suspension bike in a few years will be dated and new tech will be out to play with. but i wanted my first investment in a mountain bike to be something that keeps it fun and timeless. ill own fancy bikes down the line. but a hard tail will always remind me of racing down grass hills on bmx bikes with friends when i was young. love seeing guys riding old ridged 26 bikes on trail. makes me want one so bad.

it also helps that im not to slow on my bike down a hill 😉

back on topic, my next bike will be a full squish 650b+ boost long travel rig 😀 (if not a ss cross bike haha)

I was just trying to make like your hard tail and bust your balls a little 😉
sorry for thread jacking! Back to 27.5+!

I fail to see the utility of 27+. None of the benefits of a full fat bike, slower rolling than standard tire, a compromise (just like 27.5). Why not just get a properly sorted FS bike?
