The what new bike are you considering thread

Me too. I just prefer low travel bikes. There is a burlier Blur that you can spec with the 120mm Fox 34. That's what I'm leaning towards as my FS replacement. Should be great as an all-around bike.
Don’t get me wrong I’ve tried the Blur out a few times and it is a rocket. I would get one if I was a cross country racer but I ride mostly chunk. I would like about 120 on the frame wherein the Blur has 100. That’s where I’m thinking of a Tallboy or Ripley. My current fs has a steep head angle so if I’m getting a new bike would like to buy something slacker to help with features as well.

@UtahJoe , you rode a 429 and firebird, but no Switchblade?
Looking at the Switchblade myself for a while now.
I did not...I used to use the NJ mtb fest as my fun day to demo bikes, but now I usually help out with rides, plus according to the S/C rep, it was the most people they ever had at any bike demo....thus just about every bike i wanted to try was out wasnt available....good problem for the festival to have tho. I cant honestly say I have ridden any pivot or s/c bike and walked away saying...I dont like this thing....I mean even the megatower at 6mr....there were a few spots were I was like "ok, I can see where this bike would be amazing....not here tho"

Have you ever considered a Knolly?
Yeti SB130 might fit the bill. there are some great deals on 2019 frames this time of year
I have ridden a yeti "something" at a martys demo once last year....I forget the model but it was 27.5 and had a fox 36....excellent downhill, turned great, not the greatest pedaling bike, but I do remember liking it...even at DMR which isnt exactly a DH park. Have never tried a knolly.....

Hmm, is a big burly bike good for Tiger's Blood or are you better off on the Scalpel? A lot of the hard stuff is about having the traction to blast up very quick climbs/rocks.
I have ridden the scalpel on tigers blood, it works, but with a 69.5deg head angle, its certainly not my favorite......the scalpel really is an awesome bike...I mean 2 weeks ago i did a sub 2.5hr lap at bearscat with it....took the same bike/tires to a cx race a week later and got a top 10 in cat 3 with it....its REALLY fast....but its not what I would call fun and playful.

With the bronson, I really only tried it at KT......but I was VERY impressed with the traction going up hill....Def. superior to my trigger....id have to try one on the slow rolling techincal stuff we have around here tho. My favorite part about the bronson tho was how fun/fast it turned....especially at a place like burke where you can drive the rear wheel into the berms...man that was fun.

I've been riding a Megatower for the past couple of months - since I finished the build at the beginning of Aug, although mostly at bike parks with one trail ride at Kingdom and another at Snow Shoe. Personally, I don't think it's too much bike to pedal around, but I have ridden long-travel bikes for XC since I built my Lawwill DH-6 in 1998.

Last weekend I rode my Primer for the first time since early Aug. Wow... it beat the snot out of me.

As far as "what new bike am I considering?" - not sure. I need to build up my new Chameleon the next time I'm home. Then I start gathering more Campy parts to rebuild my Grade.

So ill preface this with what I have first....

My scalpel race bike

my 2013 trigger 29er that has around 8000+ miles on it....still works perfectly and I still love it.

Im looking to replace my trigger with something all mountain/enduro....like my trigger, i want it to be awesome downhill, but I often to rides like TOS to ringwood and back with some fast guys for ~3hrs...so it cant be a complete battleship.

Tried a bronson for 3 days in kingdom and LOVED it....would like to try one in some rocks around here tho.
tried a mach 429 trail...great bike, but a little more towards the XC side than the enduro side for what im looking for. if I didnt have my scalpel already, id probably get this bike.
tried a megatower....awesome downhill, but too much bike to pedal around
tried a pivot firebird...felt very similar to the megatower to me. I dont get to DH parks or do enough enduro races to use something this big.
tried a TB4 at the festival....im thinking it was set up very incorrectly bc I swear it made my scalpel feel plush. I didnt have my shock pump on me for this test spin, so ill need to try this again sometime. set up really is EVERYTHING so
SC blur....great bike...if I was looking to replace my scalpel, this would be my first choice...but im not right now.
Hoping to get a ride on @jdogs demo hightower soon. So ill have to revisit after I give that a try.

I will say much to my disappointment....ALL of the bikes I have tried have had either fox 34, 36 or rockshox forks.....I have to be honest, I havent liked any of them as much as my 8000+ miles lefty supermax. Ill just have to put this lefty on my new bike I guess.

so far my favorite has been the bronson but I need to ride it on something like tiger blood....
Really like the Bronson I rented in Colorado. Climbed really well, handled rock gnar well and descended well.

I finally upgraded from my first road bike. I had been riding the wrong size frame and it really made me miserable. Thanks to my team shop Hilltop bikes for the hookup!

2020 Specialized Tarmac Pro SRAM Force AXS Etap. 12 speed with Quarq PM and Supakaz cages. I only pedalled around thw block briefly but I have never ridden a bike that accelerated like this! It just felt so light on the pedals! I’m working today so I’ll give her a test rip later on.

Looks great Dave... I'm just wondering why on Instagram you posted that this was your dream bike? Road tires are never in my dreams... you should consider having yourself checked

Funny you ask! I just enjoy all cycling even though singlespeed is clearly the fastest. ? I really enjoy road riding as it’s great to attack segments, ride with buddies, grab some grub or just gain fitness. Obviously I’m a converted MTBer. I really have no interest in crits or anything but may do some of the longer road races at some point.

Yeti SB’s are hot AF right now. I haven’t ridden one but they would be in the mix if I was looking

Anything but Pivot. I ran into a couple of Pivot representatives at Creek this summer, what a bunch of A-Holes.

I have not gotten a new bike in 3 years.

As an early Christmas present I'm got a new frame (Kona Operator) and now buying parts to build a new Downhill Bike.

Currently eyeballin’ the newest mid travel 29ers. Trance, Fuel, Tallboy, with a dark horse 5010 in there. Seems like the right do it all travel. Jason has a Fox 36 Bronson I’ve ridden some. it’s very nice but needs to be going awful fast before it wakes up.
