Things that make you frown :(

I don't really "get it" but I have constant music playing in my head, so listening to music while riding doesn't work for me. Even when road riding. Shokz bone-conducting headphones seem to work for a lot of folks.

That said, passing someone with a speaker playing doesn't bother me. I only hear them for a few seconds. If we are going in the same direction, I'll change course. There are far more important things in the world to get butt-hurt over.
I use JLab air pods. Which clip to your ears.

I’ll just leave this here….

I ride with a Timberbell so that other trail users hear me. In a way, I've made peace with bluetooth speaker guy by thinking he's doing the same thing just using music instead of a bell (turning a negative into a positive). You definitely hear him coming and the woods aren't just for me. It's not like I'm riding with him, so it's only a few seconds.

I've used Airpods when road riding for years. I also have the Garmin radar and keep the volumn low enough to hear most road noise. I get visual and audio alerts to approaching traffic.

On the NYC 5 Boro ride, and they frown on in-ear and over the ear headphones (mumbles something about safety😀). This year, I bought a pair of Shokz OpenRun Pro 2s. They're much better than Airpods. I have MTB with them a few times. I can carry on a full conversation and the other person has no idea if the music is on or off.

No, I can't be alone with my thoughts.

I just had one at Chimney Rock. The guy was about 50' up the trail with the dog following behind. When he turned around he said the dog was friendly, just growling at me because I probably startled it. Maybe take your headphones out and pay attention to your off leash dog?
I’ll take Bluetooth speaker guy over unleashed dogs any day of the week. I’ve been chased, barked at and bit (once) by dogs on my bike. They scare me.
