Things that make you frown :(

i'm a little cranky today but i really hate it when people make a suggestion and then say "if you want to" or "that's just a suggestion... you don't have to do that" or anything along those lines... because it's not if i want to and it's not just a suggestion, you're passive/aggressively telling me i have to do that thing.

i tend to get that "add-on" when i make a face like, Are you fucking kidding me?

the use of passive/aggressive in any sentence...

while it's important to learn how to say no... i'm referencing the way in which people address requests in the first place...

instead of saying things like:
i'm not forcing you to but...
that's just a suggestion but...
i think it might be good but that's just my opinion, so do what you want but...

a request should be more like:
Hey, MissJR, when you have free time, I'd like you to look at XYZ. I think it will be beneficial to the production of the newsletters. If there are any costs involved, I'll have the company pay for it.

At work I get a lot of "just think about it, ok?"

If you want me to do it that way, just tell me you want me to do it that way. We're adults we can be direct with each other.

You are being addressed as MissJR in work? Or you just want to?

Not sure if this is a frown or smile post, but....Put in my resignation at the current job after 13 years... Start the new job on the 12th. (The day after the Superbowl that I hope my Ravens are in... )

Had to drive out to Long Island today to talk my S&RVP so we could discuss me staying put...

Hopefully making the right decision.

Did the old job involve driving to Long Island and the new one doesn't? Because then you're winning.

Its a hard thing to do - leaving something comfortable for something unknown. Just remember its about what they aren't offering you for your career or how the growth has become stagnant. Go in to the new gig with a positive attitude and continue to grow.

Yeah, growth hasn't really become stagnant, there is a plan for the next step. But just going to take the leap and see where I land.

Gave my notice as well returning from the holidays, 19yrs at the current job. Committed to staying on until the end of Feb. However, no job, no care. Job searching, planning to update some skills, and get some home projects completed before returning to the workforce. There was a counter offer, but no talk of pay. I've experienced too many "I told you so" moments that I didn't think I had to speak about. Future doesn't look any better.

I finally popped, so taking a leap while I still have some time left to work.

This should totally be a smile not a frown post.

My career the last few years has been chaos and I got some great advice from someone who told me there aren't any careers anymore just jobs so we can get paid and support our families and our obligations. In Aug of 2022 I moved to a job which at first seemed like a no brainer but after 9 months it was destroying my mental health so I quit and moved to a new job in Sept 2023. One of the best decisions I made this new new job is less stress, less complicated, and more compensation and work/life balance.

Good luck with your new job and be confident in your decision, but also keep in mind if it doesnt work out YOU can decide to make another move.
