Transporting fatties????

Ever since last year when I brought the Misfit into a friend's shop for a tune up on the rear hub and (while I waited) played around on a Necromancer he had on the shop floor, I've wanted a fatty to play around on. But this year, I bought a new car without a hitch for a hitch rack, and now I can't conceive of a way I would transport it if I got one. So for anyone who has a fatty and no hitch rack -- How do you transport it? I know it would never fit on my roof rack.

Andy (Goodvibe) has a regular size 26" front wheel he puts on his, I dunno what the hub is from. Maybe he'll chime in. He has a platform hitch rack but the concept is similar?

You can just put a standard mtb back wheel on the front. On a pug at least. I have an adapter for mine for a fork mount rack. Works great

But my roof rack is a fork mount rack -- the rear wheel and the fork width are the problem -- or am I thinking of this the wrong way?

They seem to have panned the hurricane product, but ymmv, or look at some of the other ideas. If you strapped the heck out of the rear wheel sitting on top of the channel do you think it'd hold?

I have a Saris Cycle-On hitch rack and I use an old rear wheel to mount it to the rack. The rear wheel sits on top of the rack and I use a tow strap to tie it down. It is just as stable as riding with my 26er.

When I first got the Fat Bike, I tried to strap both wheels down and my brand new fat bike fell off the rack. Luckily, I was going 10 mph and there was no significant damage.

When I have the bike inside my car, I have a Rocky Mounts Flytrap, which has a 20mm fork adapter. I made an adapter at home depot so that I can carry it inside the car, which would also work on a pick-up truck. I will put up pictures the next time I transport my Mukluk.

For anyone with a hitch that want's a tray style rack... i was borrowing an older version of this rack (Swagman) from a friend for the past two weeks:

It fit the Nates perfectly... and I'd bet those hoops could be modified for some of the larger fatties out there :hmmm:

So, I am thinking of a new rack that fits the tires better. I am split between 2:

Thule T2 with Fat bike kit
Saris Freedom Superclamp 2

Every rack I have had from Saris has been excellent, made in the USA and the customer service and my rack has handled excellently. Their site says that this new rack will easily fit the fatness. The Thule has gotten good reviews, but is quite a bit more expensive. Any suggestions?

I use a standard fork mount roof rack. Hurricane 135mm adapter and strap the rear wheel down.

I was looking for something that was fatness specific rather than continuing to rig it. Also, I like my current cycle-on because it doesn't tough the bike frame or the car.

Another hitch rack option - Yakima Hold Up with the plastic saddle removed from the metal hoop. I don't think it will fit much bigger than a 4" tire though.

Late to the game here, but I have fit a Muk in a Yakima Holy Roller roof rack.
Front wheel squeezed in easy enough (at like 8 or 10 psi), and just cinched down the rear wheel with a couple of those bungee/twist-tie jammies.

Truth. If it weren't for the kayak, I'd be rocking a hitch mount.
