Trouble overhauling One Up dropper post

I have followed this video to the letter in order to install thicker guide pins to take up some slop, and am at the point where the green bottom cap of the air cartridge shaft is supposed to thread right on to the body (9:05 in the video). But in my case it won’t go any further (1st pic) . The air valve as you can see from the 2nd pic is topped out at the seat clamp so the cartridge itself is as far up in the post as it can go. I have tried using more elbow grease to push it in but it won’t budge and I don’t want to force it. The video shows that it should be simple with no resistance

I have tried letting out the air (even though that should have nothing to do with it and was not mentioned in the video) to no avail. I have tried using the original guide pins, also to no avail. I’m at a loss. I’ve been at this for a few hours now. Any suggestions other than 🔥?

Compress the post a few inches to assemble. I also leave the seal collar loose as well when servicing and snug that up last .

Thanks but neither works. When I compress the post it simply pushes the cartridge assembly further out of the post housing. In fact the cartridge’s plunger rod (if that’s what it’s called?) doesn’t move up into the cartridge, even with no air in the cartridge. It’s almost like it’s air locked? 🤷‍♂️

When in doubt start over from step one clean everything multiple times , sounds like something isn't seating correctly like an old guide pin is hiding somewhere or a burned up bushing .

Are you pushing the release button on the end of the rod(this goes inside the green piece) while trying to compress it? It's not easy to press it on and compress the post while the green cap is unthreaded.

Yep I tried that too, no luck. What’s interesting is in the video the guy was able to put it all back together with no fuss (eg he had the midcap snug to top of the housing, and he had to do nothing to get the green cap to seat at the bottom). I’ve since done some searching and have seen reports that the cartridges can go bad (though this is only a year old, so not sure if that’s the issue). I wrote to One Up in any case to see what they say.

Update: I tried again to release the actuator but this time with no air in the cartridge and I got it to work. Since I had re- installed the original guide pins, I’m going to disassemble tomorrow and reassemble with the thicker guide pins and hopefully it will be good as new. Thanks for the help! 👍 No need for 🔥 just yet 😁

Have you not learned your lesson from the tubeless fiasco? Leave this work to the professionals. 😂😂😉
😁 For what it’s worth, I have now used that compressor like a champ, inflating 4 fatbike tires and seating the beads in ~5 mins that would have otherwise taken me 30 and a sore arm. 👍
