turning an old hardtail 29er into a gravel(ish) bike...thoughts?

What compound did you get on your Sparwoods tires ? Durable or Light&Supple? Looking into doing the same with my Elma, retaining full trail gearing..but I can't bring myself to go with the bar ends, even though those Ergon... I keep thinking about them...
durable...i tend to ride in some terrible stuff...i also LOVE the bar ends! especially when riding the roads...drop bars and new brake/shift levers was cost prohibitive for me for this project, so this was a nice easy compromise

I have been rocking my converted Eriksen Ti MTB around Pisgah gravel and single track. This thing is a blast. It worked out great since the bike was designed for a 110mm stem. With the 65 mm reach PNW 520 mm dropbars and a 50 mm stem the reach to the hoods works . I got the idea from the new Evil Chamois Hagar gravel bike. I do not like road/gravel bike geometry and “F” a rigid fork. I forgot how much fun a hardtail can be.
