Verizon Droid

Yep I'm all over this. My New NE2 credit was available in August and I've been waiting not so patiently for this to come out.

BTW I picked up the HTC Imagio a few weeks ago but will be returning it for the Droid. The HTC is nice but the memory leaks like crazy and I've had to reload the ROM numerous times from scratch. It's going back on the 6th.

My NE2 isn't up until Feb, but I'm going on to my fiancee's plan & will renew for 2 years so I'm really hoping they will allow me to get a new phone now. I'm also hoping this thing lives up to the hype. It looks like it will, based on everything I've seen so far.

My only concern is the 200mb on-board memory. If they don't allow you to run apps from the SD card it is going to be a huge limit.

The NE2 plan allows you to swap starting on the 20th month. You don't have to wait until the full 24 months.

Yeah, that is golden. I was recently looking at picking up a GPS too. Not anymore! I'm really suprised that verizon stepped up and is allowing an unlocked phone on their network. I think it will pay off in the long run if this phone & the other coming up are the real thing.

From everything I have read, the Droid has 256MB RAM (same as the 3GS Jesus phone), and 512MB ROM and ships with 16GB microSD card (expandable to 32 GB). Thats quite a bit of memory to launch apps from even without the microCD card. Even if you can't run apps from the memory card right away, I'm confident that either Google will update Android or someone will work up a hack to make it work.

Guys, please. We have a board limit that the iPhone needs to be mentioned every 5 posts. I hooked you up with this one for free to get the total to 2 in 10, but please don't make me add it to one of your avatars.

Thanks,

Wow, this thing is neat. Not that I know jack about a lot of this stuff anyway...

I'm still waiting to see if Verizon will start supporting the Jesus Phone in 2010.

IMO: Don't believe anything Verizon tells you when it comes to what will or will not be locked by them at time of launch. They are still advertising that all BBs are GPS capable - they are not as some are still locked for no reason other than they don't want to pay a programmer to reverse the lock on the Curve! Let someone else fool around with it first before you buy.

Try to click the "GPS" link on the Droid website. Unlike most of the other links, it goes nowhere!

I understand your skepticism about Verizon releasing crippled phones, but every new smartphone released in the last 4 months has had the GPS unlocked. Some older phones may still be locked, but not new ones.

That Google navigation app that I linked to earlier will be preinstalled on the phone and it will be free with no monthly fees. That's been verified ad nauseum on the phone blogs & forums from people who got Droids to review.

In fact, Verizon is banned from crippling anything on this phone. The contract that they have with Google classifies this as a "Google Experience" phone, and when it falls in that category, the carrier (Verizon) is not allowed to alter or block any features of Android.
