William Toth - Plainfield, NJ -- park use was laid out years ago and should not be altered. Bike trails ruin vistas and forest solitude. Bikes threaten forest animals. Changes proposed will disturb soil and plant life. MTB and hiking are incompatible. There will be too many bikers bombing trails and creating hazards. As a biker myself, I am happy with the surrounding parks. Biking is dangerous. Other bike parks in N Jersey you see lots of destruction and hiker abandonment of these parks. Biking will ruin the landscape. Cop had to pull him off the mic.

Rant against Freeholders for not seeking broader input from Union Co residents. Claims many in the room aren't even from Union Co. Rambling about special interests taking over Union Co.

Alleged botanist claiming the region in the SW corner of the park is too steep for trails. Pink flags are not in the correct location according to the map she claims. Tires will carry seeds to other locations of the park. The fact that the flags are already there and the residents are just now finding out about this plan is wrong according to her.

Chairman Bruce Bergen spoke briefly and told residents to comment on the Union Co website if they can't get their question/comment heard. More of the same themes coming from all the follow on speakers.

Rant from a guy about the CME rep not taking enough notes. She responded that she has taken some notes.
Yeh when I heard that I was thinking... like What should she have written down? The anti-mt.bike people all repeated the same few bromides, just in different flavors. At some point there's nothing new to take notes on.

I stuck it out for about two and a half hours but any more and I'd have fried my brain trying to keep track of all the variations of the same few myths, half truths and such. However kudos to all those other riders who showed, more so if you had the stomach to make it to the very end. And many thanks for the realtime updates.

I had to leave after 1 hour. My freaking head was about to explode! the one comment how "all mtn bikers are cheaters" er something to that effect, really upset the whole room. I wish that I could have stayed to hear the pro bike side.

This was taped , will that be available to watch?

Also wondering if the pro-biking folks got to speak. I had to leave to get my kids to bed. We had some NICA students there!

Man, that was interesting... what a night!

I'll be clearing my Thursday nights to make sure I can get to the freeholder meetings. I have a feeling our attendance will be required.
