wild goose trail runners this weekend 9/21-9/22
that was insane. i've never seen that many people at once on any of these trails. i must say, REALLY pleasant people though. they were even offering me live encouragement on some of the steeper climbs. you haven't known pressure until you have 10 - 15 people on either side of the trail stopped to watch you climb up a stupid hill and wildly cheering for you as though you were in some race instead of a casual bike ride on a random saturday afternoon. good stuff

Which stupid hill?
I was glad to see them using the unsanctioned trails, especially the one I weed whacked a few weeks ago.

what unsanctioned trails did they use? they were all over double pond, pumphouse and the cherry ridge fire road from what i saw

ah ok i wasn't over that way. the more i think about that race the more insane i think those people are. you ask me to ride a 50 or 100 mile mountain BIKE race and i'd tell you to GTFO. these ppl did it on foot...

again? oh boy. i swear there were more running races in the park this year than bike races. not necessarily a bad thing btw. it's easier to dodge the runners. the downside of course is that these runners do exactly zero trail prep/maintenance for the races. just put the little ribbons up and off they go, debris/obstacles be damned

I won’t begrudge Ragnar the success it has achieved. People seem to like the format. But I will never understand the logic behind holding it on state land. Like the spartan races, it should be held at mtn creek where they can play in the mud to their heart’s content. Here’s hoping for a dry weekend at least.

my favorite day of the year. We going human tipping my friends. I will neither confirm or deny a bowling event with the same event.

I rode that yesterday after reading your post. I didn’t realize it was being built.

Funny…a few weeks ago I saw someone in the brush on the Iron Mountain end and thought it was an odd place to be bushwhacking. Now I realize they were probably about to punch the trail through.

I rode it from Iron mountain toward wawayanda rd. Slight tilt uphill. Overall not very rocky path. I look forward to trying it the other way. I almost turned around to do it then but I had another route in mind.

I remember in the past thinking I was going to get somewhere going past that rock on the wawayanda road end, but it just died out.

Not a bad spot for a connector.

That used to be a trail right where it is, but it got overgrown and went to hell.
I know a big wig in the NYNJTC and last year he told me they were going to fix it up.
I didn't think I'd see it in my lifetime though, I was surprised. I did ride it both ways.
The rock placement by Iron Mt. is stupid.

@Kaleidopete next time I am in there I will have to go have a look at it. Won't be until at least January I would think, having hip replacement in a week. Doc says at my age, should be cleared for mountain biking end of December.

Good luck! Keep us updated, and Pete can drop some fireball
