Hello folks!

First time MTB'r here. Purchased a leftover 2011 Specialized Rockhopper Expert 29er. Been on a few trails (at CR) already and enjoying the sport.

Would like some advice on which shorts are good for riding and provide protection from falling on your @$$.

As for gear, all I have is helmet and gloves. Do you guys wear or recommend anything else? How do you protect your face from smashing into a rock or landing in brush?

Any spare parts you recommend carrying around on the bike or at least in the SUV in case anything happens?

For trail riding, you'll see mostly regular open helmets. Plenty of full face options but hotter and heavier. If you feel you need the extra protection go for it.
Regarding shorts, again, lots of impact protection gear if you feel you need it, at the expensive of weight and bulk. I just wear padded shorts, gloves, and tshirt for trail riding.

On the trail I carry a spare tube, patch kit, some zip ties (good idea jungle habitat Dave!), a combo tool kit (allen head and phillips stuff), and tire levers. I also stuff a couple paper towels in my pockets just in case. In the car I've got...a lot more. 😀

Welcome and enjoy!

aside from the above, i'd recommend some type of eye protection. I like the Tifosi glasses. they have interchangeable lenses depending on light conditions.

CR is tough for beginners, try 6 mile or lewis morris. Once you get better CR will be easier. I will be out there today after work.

Welcome. If you should try the beginner rides at Allaire. These rides are a lot of fun and you get a change to meet a lot of riders and get tips. The beginner rides are starting on April 10th.

we meet in the main lot on hospital road at 6 pm.
as for what to carry and what to wear padded shorts are a must have and also try to pick up a few "wicking" jerseys these will keep you cooler in the summer months as opposed to cotton shirts.
if you check out the link that Shaggs posted it will cover just about every thing you will need.
BTW welcome aboard have fun..
