What Bird Did You See Today?

Yay, they're back. Night herons. Short story long: huge new home being built with protected trees because of established heron nests. Town could give rats ass about trees and birds and gave ok to cut down. Local environmentalists got wind and state came in a shut that shit down and saved the trees. Still, house was built but happy to walk by today and see several nests with birds back.

Good sightings last two days. Wednesday while sitting outside, a mature eagle made a couple passes over us at treetop height.
Too fast to get a pic, but very cool. There are a couple tasty squirrels in my yard. There were more, but the hawks seem to like them.

Yesterday, this guy comes out of the woods then lets out a loud squawk to announce his presence. Runs a bit, then stops.
Then runs some more. Hopefully there is a mate around. First pheasant I've seen in the area since they put in the golf course.
(other than the time someone broke into the pheasant farm and freed a bunch.)

Survivor from hunting earlier this year. Very few wild pheasant in NJ.

Ospreys are back at the nest on the command loop at Hartshorne. There were two in the nest but one flew away before I got the phone out.
Probably went to find a nice juicy squirrel while Momma guarded the nest.

I just looked up that name and found this:

Saxony ducks are considered a rare breed, and are listed as "threatened" by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
In Chemnitz Germany, 1930, Mr. Albert Franz began a breeding program for a new dual-purpose duck using Rouen, German Pekin, and Blue Pomeranian breeds.
They don't fly, are good foragers, and tend to be good broodies and mothers.

I wonder how they came to be in Wawayanda?
