what front tires are you running

Right now running a conti trail king, feeling it starting to slip every now and then despite low pressures, thinking of switching to a maxxis minion dhf, thoughts?
normally ride chimney and rv, sometimes 6mr, and did Lewis Morris for the first time last night (mainly when I felt my tire slip)

What do you guys like?

conti x king for Central Jersey and trail king for North (Allamuchy)

edit: and those are black chili

Hardtail has 2.25 Ardents all around, squishy has a Minion DHF 2.5/DHR 2.3. Both sets have been great for pretty much all conditions. Ardents aren't very good in mud, but you shouldn't be out riding in those conditions anyway. The DHR was like a paddleboat at Short Track #3 through the slop.

Before I researched into Ardents, I had Conti Race Kings that came on my hardtail. AWESOME Six Mile tire or for other hard pack, dry trails. Had to upgrade to more of an 'all-trail' tire though for other conditions and weather.

ardent 2.25 (i think...) speaking of which, i need to fix a shifting problem....

2.3 high rollers-
Little meatier than the Ardent

Ever have any slippage on the dhf?

I've tried a bunch over the years but have settled on schwalbe the past two years, really can't go wrong, they have different types for all conditions year round. Never tried conti, schwalbes are lighter.

I haven't experienced it myself, but I can imagine that it could on hardpack dirt because it's knobby. Otherwise it's been awesome. I have the 3C compound version.

One of my friends said it does slip out on slower, sharp, hardpack turns. His words to me were to trust the tire, go fast, and let it do its jobs. Right @jumpa ?

I ride the dhf minion 2.5 in the front. Thing with aggressive tires are you need to ride aggressive for them to work. The minions have a little bit of a dead spot from the center to outside knobs. So I just try to rail corners harder and lean or run lower psi. Ardents in the back BTW. Love the set up. Fast and fun in the rear. Especially on a short chainstay hardtail 29er

Ardent 2.4 front tubeless 21psi. ardent 2.25 rear 23psi. Ride them in allamuchy and surrounding. Rode them for 7 days in British Columbia last year. Work great for me

I ride fast and have enough weight on me to get some good grip at low psi

Probably going with dhf since I love my dhr

I hate how tires are so expensive

You can get mid range tires for 40 or 50 bucks, higher end for 75ish, I've had my front tire on for at least a year, rear tires are 2 per year. So 225 for 3 tires per year or 150 for economy. Sometimes there are good used deals on here.

I've been running Maxxis Ignitor 2.1 on both front and rear for a few years. I've been pondering getting a fatter tire for up front.

Was recommended the WTB TrailBoss 2 .25 lighter version. 2.4 version is heavier.

i've got trail king 2.4 up front right now with an ardent 2.25 in the rear. the ardent is my absolute favorite rear tire but i've been playing around with fronts a bit lately. i had a mountain king 2.4 up front and it was similar to the trail king 2.4 but i swapped it out after one ride (might be for sale soon) to the trail king. both are decent tires; as far as i could tell they basically rode the same.

to be honest, i found that a high roller II 2.3 up front was better than everything else for what i do. it has better traction than the ardents but is a bit slower. i also found it to be all around better than the conti TK/MK's i have now but only by a slight margin.

i heard a lot of people like Hans Dampf's but those suckers are like $90 a pop...

i ran a minion and a nevengal on the front of my old bike and they both felt like i was dragging a boat anchor but they did have awesome traction.

also, i pretty much only use tires with Pro-tection or EXO or whatever version of the heavy duty tire each company has. Conti's were tougher to get to hold air in a tubeless setup than the maxxis that's for sure.
