I dont speak beer jargon ("flavor notes"), but here is my opinion on various beers I've tried recently:
Sam Adams 48 Latitude IPA...pretty good. nice hoppy flavor. nicely bitter, left that IPA-charactistic satisfying "lip-puckering" bitterness after each sip. goood flavor, slight citrus/pine flavor. rating: 7.5
Cricket Hill Hopnotic...Jersey made in Fairfield. can honestly say its the first IPA I have ever had that is truly undrinkable. smelled like a combination of burned tire and old sweatsocks. tasted worse. got about 3 sips before pouring down the drain. rating: 1.0
Long Trail IPA (unfiltered) just bland. not necessarily bad, but certainly not good. it had no balls what's so ever. didnt really taste like an IPA (it didnt have the falvor or bite that an IPA should). I mean it was drinkable, but not what you want from an IPA. rating: 6.0
Harpoon IPA run-of-the-mill. thumbs up only becuase I like IPA but nothing special. rating: 6.0
River Horse HopHazard American Pale Ale another NJ beer. had it a few days ago. dont really remember it. dont remember it "wow"ing me. gotta try it again.
Flying Fish Hopfish IPA best of the bunch this week (well, maybe the Sam Adams was better). another NJ beer....certainly best of the NJ ones I tried this week. not nearly as hoppy as the Sam Adams (i.e., didnt make me pucker my lips....which I like in an IPA). nice flavor if not a little subdued. rating: 7.5
Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA now THIS is an IPA with balls!!! big huge balls. big balls. packed with flavor. 10% alcohol!! (which is nearly as high as it gets for beer...this is nearly the alcohol content of wine). you can taste the alcohol (which is not necessarily a great thing ...I think this beer would catch on fire if you put a match to it). the hops are POW!!!!! cant imagine having more than two in one sitting, but none-the-less. very very good. delicious. rating: 8.0

Magic Hat Encore IPA just delicious. favorite beer of the week so far, by far. no question. great flavor. COMPLEX, overlapping flavors. (using some beer jargon, I know). nice citrus smell. lite on the "hoppy POW" factor. had a few at a friends house last night, leaving right now to see if the liquor store has it! apparently is a blend of IPA and wheat beer....leave it Magic Hat to come up with something different. rating: 9.0.

Riverhorse Hop-A-Lot-Amus Unfiltered Double IPA yummy. comparable to a Smuttynose but not quite as yummy... less crisp/more muddy than Smuttynse (whatever that means..but makes sense to me). citrus/ grapefruit flavor. pretty heavy. nice hoppy bite. rating: 8.0
Magic Hat h.I.P.A. Magic Hat fucking rocks. another really delicious beer!!! very interesting light golden color (it has the same color of a light lager like Coors or something...IPA's are characteristically amber in color). the beer is light in the "hoppy POW" factor yet has a very interesting and complex flavor. very good beer. great beer. very strange coloe for an IPA - never seen that before - makes me wonder why its so different in color to other IPAs. rating: 8.5

Smuttynose IPA - for a months now this has been the reigning champ. interesting to have this after trying so many other IPAs. I think the Magic Hat beers are serious contenders. typical amber color. nice hoppy bite bit not overpowering. nice citrus smell and flavor...grapefuit to be precise. rating: 9.0.
Porkslap PaleAle not much to say. smell is just...off. taste is okay. drinkable but not enjoyable. flavor - well, nothing there. flavor is just..hollow. not offensive. just...blah. rating: 3.0
