What have you done to your car today?

Similar year wrx exhaust is like 80% bolt on to a forester . That last 20% was a bitch lol , it was a good reminder that I like fabricating stuff but don't have much free time so I usually get to a point and start rushing. Had to fabricate driver side muffler hangers and muffler flange to match flange on y pipe . Passenger side was 100% same as wrx stuff all hangers lined up perfectly . Driver side muffler was about 6 inches off so cut and turned a bunch of tight 90 degree pieces and welded it up. Not bad for a 100 dollar market place deal i got like 5 years ago . I was concerned about it being annoyingly loud or droney because the mid pipe back to the y is like double the size of the forester one but it's actually no louder than before maybe a tad deeper . Still slow af lol .

All of that and you could’ve just hacksawed everything off an inch in front of the Cat 😂

You forgot to cover your plate with 2 fingers 😜 (JK)

sadly the press isnt going to do much for this job...they bolt in...but once they are in and rusted nicely, they are a bastard to get out

The passenger rear was the nosiest one....my wifes 2018 3.6 has 96k on it. But while I was back there, I just did both of them. Fuck that is a miserable job. Each side took a solid 90 min of full power swings with my 10 lb maul....left, right, up, down....just have to keep smashing it until they finally move a little...then you can work it around and get a big enough gap to start hammering flat chisels in on each side. Of course you also dent the shit out of backing plate along the way...but it can be bent back.

My slide hammer couldnt make a dent

I will say, had I know about this, I might have bought one...but 5lb sledge wouldnt have done it...like you need paul Bunyan swings

But its done and god what a difference....car is sooooooooooo much quieter
My daughter's Crosstrek just started making the "hum". Any ideas on how long before this becomes a major issue and is ready to fail? Can you drive it for a while like that? @UtahJoe

I drove my wifes for like a year? long time...it got louder and louder....just get turning up the radio...we take the car to vermont alot in the winter so I just decided to do it before it got too cold in the garage. But no idea how long it would have been until I HAD to do it.

Yea wheel bearings are funny like that. They can take years to fail or weeks. If your gonna stretch it out just keep a look out for signs of it getting worse

Started working on my daughter's SLK250. The rear end jumps all over when hitting bumps. I'm ordering shocks but I learned from a friend that there's a 20 year extended warranty on the subframe for corrosion that causes all kinds of problems. I'm going to give it a very thorough inspection but, unfortunately, it rusts from the inside-out, so I'm not sure how well I can examine it.

The car only has 45k miles, garaged in FL, and it looks spotless underneath so it seems unlikely to be at risk but you never know.

It also has a bad power steering leak. I can't tell from where yet because there's oil all over the place in the front of the engine. A previous mechanic replaced a couple o-rings - I'm hoping he screwed up some how and it will be an easy fix.
