What's your recommendation for a healthy meal/snack?

Since I've been home after the birth of my daughter, lets just say my watts/kilo have gone down significantly. So now it's time to start looking ahead to the 2017 MTB race season and get back on track food-wise. I've been doing well since returning to work. The schedule really helps me out so I don't just graze at home. Being home was wonderful to take care of my daughter, but it is hell on the waistline.

So my question is what are your favorite healthy meal/snack options? I've been eating a bunch of fruits, veggies, grilled/breaded chicken, turkey burgers, fish, rice, quinoa, salads, eggs, figs, almonds, etc... I'm looking for some more variety or other options that are good for you and taste great. Let me know what works for you.

Mix some Chia seeds in with the yogurt.
I also like Lara Bars for a quick easy and healthy snack

Spiralizers are all the rage now. Turn anything into a pasta looking dish. Great for tricking kids into eating vegetables when all they want are noodles.

sounds like you're doing great tbh. just watch the carbs and try to limit portion sizes. if you're worried about weight it's all about calories in vs calories out. i'm diabetic so i also have to watch sugar, fat and sodium. check labels on your turkey burgers, salad dressings and definitely on your energy/carb bars. you'll find tons of hidden calories, fat and sugar. Personally, i like luna bars (they're safe for men!) for a trail snack

Go to snack right now is an apple with a little peanut butter or some low-fat cheese and crackers.

How dare I say this but it is a great snack now and again. Dark chocolate with your fruit. Buy a bar to test where your true motivation is at? If it last you a month, you're in good shape and you treat your self along the long road.

I mix that broccoli slaw with some dressing and whatever else I have leftovers of. Chicken, sausage, tofu, etc. Then wrap it up like a burrito.

Guac and hummus.

Lots of eggs.

Green apples.

Its all about portion control.

Dark chocolate is my reward. I have to keep the sweet tooth happy. I'm really craving a good slice of pizza...

Some of my favorites... Carrots and hummus. Organic tortillas and salsa. Apples and organic or natural peanut butter (no extra junk added). Nuts/seeds/fruit. Plain yogurt with fresh cubed pineapple or strawberries. eggs, fried, scrambled, hard boiled...love em. Toast with peanut butter and bananas. Cheese-sticks. DIY trail-mix. My wife's homemade granola bars, which I think use dates as the binder/sweetener. Tuna with mayo mustard and hot banana peppers.

If your looking to lose weight, it's all about calories in vs. calories burned like Rick Vaughn said. One of the easiest ways to cut calories without being hungry is to cut out sweets. Sweets are generally high cal and not filling.

I feel your pain though. One of my girls was colicky. She had silent re-flux, couldn't sleep without being held. We took shifts. For some reason we got in the habit of keeping a box of Entemans Popems within reach when we were holding her all night. Damn we ate a lot of those little donuts during that timeframe.

Yea I wasn't eating a ton of unhealthy foods but I was just eating too many calories and not super clean ones. When you aren't sleeping much in a regular basis it seems you can justify anything to yourself...

One of my mid afternoon go to's

A handful of mini bell peppers - we get them from Aldi, handful of baby carrots, an orange and a handful of pistachios

I lean towards that ratio of veggies, fruit, nuts

At night I crave something.. I was eating cookies, ice cream or some form of shit cereal - Cocoa Crispies...

I've since switched over to making a monster salad... Instead of eating a salad with dinner, I save it for later. Usually consists of Romaine or mixed greens, feta cheese, olives, apples, craisins, croutons, apple cider or balsamic vinegar, olive oil. It seems to take care of the late night snack craving / hunger usually when I walk in the kitchen and grab something easy out of the pantry or cookie jar.

That's an interesting go to. I might like that as long as there are no green bell peppers. Those things are atrocious!

I usually go for some kind of fruit for the evening snack. I love pineapple or strawberries so I've been sticking to that. The salad is a good idea too. I did have a small bowl of ice cream the other night. It's been over a month since I had it and it was amazing!

This is my evening snack - fruit. Either an apple, orange, grapefruit or grapes, at least in the winter. More variety when summer fruit is in season. Years ago I had ice cream frequently but now it's maybe once a month
