im going to buy a roof rack to carry two bikes, but i dont know which one to get. i know some of you use or used them, i would greatly appreciate feedback of what works and what does not.

thanks

Have always used a Thule roof rack on my cars. I got a 2011 Subaru Outback and the roof rack option became a PIA. I ordered a curt hitch from JC Whitney (they had some promo free s/h + % off) and then I got an Allen 4 bike hitch mount carrier from Amazon for $75 also free s/h.

Just waiting to install the hitch. IMO, this an easier option than the roof. Of course it depends on your car.

I've got a bunch of Thule racks/parts/trays I'm looking to sell. What car do you have?

got mine from rack attack, cheapest i found it but I didnt check out etrailer which I wish I had but I didnt even try to compare prices as I bought it already.

I never tried a fairing but have heard they help. When I had my roof rack my sunroof was unusable about 25mph because the wind noise was unbearable. I'd imagine a fairing may help a bit.

If the rack is howling that normally means you have to move the front bar back an inch or two. I had that problem with mine and once I moved it the "howl" went away. I do think think the fairing helps with the noise "a little" but it is still loud. I have one but don't think it is "necessary".

Yeah, above 40 mph is getting pretty loud w/ all the windows closed.
