Wooly caterpillars - every one I have seen this year is either all light brown with no dark stripe or all dark brown with no lighter stripes. Winter predictions?

they both have large stripes, and no base color?

sounds like end-of-days omen to me.
 
@Chris26er and I saw a great horned owl yesterday afternoon at Mahlon. We were just riding along and he suddenly did his call in a tree right above us. We stopped and were able to see him perched high up in the tree. He was huge! I have heard them before from my house but this was my first peak of him. No pic though.

I am been seeing white ones this year too, which I don't remembering seeing in the past.

Deer are starting to be bananas in the morning again. Saw an 8 point and a 4 point this morning, no doubt bonering.
 
Might be a new one - I know @stb222 has had several collisions with deer - this afternoon I clocked a turkey vulture flying down dutchtown-zion road - probably about 35 mph. I saw three vultures on the right side of the road - was thinking as I approached - don't take off and fly into me. What I didn't see was a 4th bird on the left side - it took off and boom. I hit it with my left shoulder then the left side of my head. A shiner is popping out now on my left eye. I wobbled after the collision but stayed upright. Now I shudder to think what would've happened if the timing was off by a few tenths of a second and it hit me square in the face... anywho, in retrospect I guess I should've braked hard and slowed down - didn't brake at all. Word to the wise

Good to hear it didn't end in a disaster.

I would venture to say the aero helmet disrupted the bird's air flow enough that it didnt hit you square in the face. It is also possible that he strava'ed your past rides and saw you average speeds and thought you were road kill and attempted to take you out. 😉

@rick81721 glad you and the bird are ok. But I cant beleive you didnt stop and take a picture of said bird, of of his flockmates 😉

On another note, at deer park last saturday, didnt see any deer, but did see a carcass that by the fur and skull that was left looked like it may have been a coyote, or something canine.
