Well this is interesting. I thought I remember hearing Giant is one of the largest frame manufactures for a lot of other brands too.
Did you read the article?Did the owner of Giant make fun of Trump or something?
I did. What surprises me a little is that this action is taken against a Taiwanese manufacturer and not one of the Chinese ones that we were made aware of. Probably due to the size of the Company? That said Giant seems to have a documented history of unfair labor practices especially against foreign workers such as poor working conditions and recruitment fees etc. with not much effort to correct it (says the interwebs).Did you read the article?
i did...the official reason is forced labor. With this administration, you must be skeptical of "the truth".Did you read the article?

I never realized they had a history of this. And I agree the Chinese need to be held to the same standard.I did. Most likely a thread I will be blocking soon...
I would just say 'everybody else need to be held to the same standard'...and not just the bike industry either.I never realized they had a history of this. And I agree the Chinese need to be held to the same standard.
True I also agree that they aren’t the only culprit but I think they are one of the worst by a large margin. Take Amazon, between the fake items and the “copied” (stolen intellectual IMHO) products, all of it comes from China.I would just say 'everybody else need to be held to the same standard'...and not just the bike industry either.
i dont see anyone around me that rides a giant tho
I don’t even know of a retailer in my general area.i dont see anyone around me that rides a giant tho
I guess you never worked for a company that had their intellectual property stolen from them and clones of their equipment built by Chinese semi-slave labor for a fraction of the price, or had to deal with workers that lost their job as you were packing their entire factory to be moved to China. Ask me how I know...sorry, I tend to get carried away as this is one of the many demons from a previous life I loved. Our German automation equipment can be designed and assembled, tested in Germany then shipped to China to run for 680000 euros. That’s a lotta euros.
Same stuff exactly, assembled and tested in China? 340000 euros.
No tariffs, no Trump bullshit, just way cheaper. Is this a US problem? I think not.
We have been Giant dealers since day one, and had them for years while at Efingers....Also carry Trek and Cannondale, amongst others...Giant has suffered from this issue for years. They give some of the absolute best value for the money amongst the other brands, they are just BORING and do not have really effective marketing. It is hard, from a retailer standpoint, to battle the "I want to buy a Trek (fill in the blank)"...They look cooler, and their marketing is killer. The only dealer I know of in NJ is Sourland in Hopewell, but it's been a few years since I've been in there so I don't know what their selection looks like. In PA, Twisted Cog, but I've never been there for personal reasons.
Reading the CBP page - some pretty serious allegations. Giant seems to refute direct involvement:

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Customs and Border Protection on Wednesday said it is detaining bikes, bike parts and accessories made by Giant in Taiwan because of allegations of forced-labor use.
