Wolvhammer question

So after 15 years+ with my Sidi Storms (which are still going strong, incredibly), I think I'm going to knuckle-down for a pair of Wolvhammers (based in large part from recommendations in this thread):

Today, I wear 5 hour toe warmers, full neoprene boot covers and leave enough room for air. I'm ok for first 2-3 hours, then the cold starts to make it's way in. The booties get all ripped up after only a half a season of riding so they're covered in duct tape, and my Storms (one of the earlier models) have plastic soles :hmmm: which are useless when stepping off the bike on rocks, ice or anything slick.

My question is on sizing. I'm a 14 street shoe, 48 Specialized summer MTB shoes, and my winter Sidi's are 50 to allow for some room in the toe box. They make the Wolvhammers up to size 50. For those that have them, what size do you recommend I buy? Thread above says they run true to size, but I assume everyone's experience could vary.

Thanks

Hi Ice, I have these and for what you're describing you should be happy with them. In terms of sizing, I think they run smaller than what the 45NRTH site says. With my 47 Sidi winter shoes I have room for thick socks (or two pairs of thin socks, or socks plus warmer pads). I bought the first pair of Wolvehammer's in 46-after measuring my foot & following the site's sizing chart-and they ran me small, even w/o socks. I exchanged them for a pair of 47 and while they're not small, they don't have room for thick socks or warmer pads, or anything really. The good thing is that you can use these boots w/ a thin pair of wool socks and be totally comfortable in very low temps.

BTW, I recently bought a pair of Fasterkatts in 47 and they ran me small even w/ thin socks. I was going to exchange them for 48's but in the end I decided I was covered between the Sidi's and the Wolvehammers.

FYI, I'm a 12.5/13 in running shoes and 46 (tight fit) on Specialized shoes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. When i was originally looking at the Specialized Winter boots, I called Marty's and a couple other shops but was told for the largest sizes they don't carry them in stock and I'd have to special order (without being able to return them if they didn't fit since it's hard for them to re-sell), hence my looking for real-world input. Just checked the Wolvs and they only carry up to 47. I think I'll go for at least 49, maybe 50's, as I'd rather have shoes a bit too big than the other way around.

Got my Wolvhammers today! Size 50, fit perfectly. Great timing given that we entered an extreme cold snap today. Thanks again for the guidance Segundo.
