Post your SS '20s Edition!

Love moots, solid guys, helluva bike. I've been steered away from a Ti SS because frame flex can pop the chain too often. Have you found that to be true?
That sounds more like bad chainline, worn components, loose tension or all of the above.

This
Though my tired old misfit (aluminum)mysteriously started dropping the chain multiple times a ride and all I can contribute it to was flex. All things were on par chain line tension newer components. I kept looking for cracks in frame. Everyone who rode behind said the frame was flexing like competitive body builder.
On that note Ti doesn't flex any more then steel does, amiright?

i mean, i would expect it to be the other way around, steel sliders with al bolts, bolts are MUCH cheaper to replace when the threads strip out.

Paragon Machine Works rockers on my steel IndyFab are aluminum. Came with stainless steel bolts, but they started to round out, so switched to Ti bolts and can be torqued a little higher.

Proper tightening. If I ever saw an aluminum bolt on my bike, I'd just throw it out.

better get to tossing then, lost of suspension linkages use al bolts these days :O (yes iv had them fail on mine)

the limiting factor on the torque is still the threads in the AL (unless they have threaded inserts installed in them, but that seems doubtful) Its not like i design this type of stuff for a living or anything 🙄

Per PMW, 6061 black anodized and torque spec for steel bolts is 24-26Nm, with Ti torque up to 10% more. I stick to the 24Nm, because Ti threads in Al. (and I'm an engineer as well)

Lots of good information here. Engineering drawings and .STEP file available.

im surprised that they have different recommendations, unless they have inserts in the threads on the AL piece.

reusable threads in AL is considered poor design (as im sure you already know if you are an engineer), most of the stuff I work on is a little larger scale than this but the same principles apply

How often do you find your tension loosens? I only run HD 1/8" chains, so I find loss of tension directly parallels chain wear.

This cannot possibly be true? Steel bolts and aluminum sliders, correct?
Steel bolts hold the sliders in place, but the tensioning bolts are aluminum.

Tension loosens up occasionally - more often if my tension is loose, it's because I misjudged it when I changed the cogs and set it too loose. That's always a hit or miss because no chain ring/cog combination are perfectly circular so if you set tension tight in one spot it could still be loose in another. It's better to err on that side than the opposite - tightening to the short spots rods out the chain elsewhere, which is a great way to prematurely wear out the drivetrain.

Took the time this evening to bleed the brakes after switching to left rear, right front.

Just waiting on rabbit holes wheel set which is just impending better weather and pickup.

Check list
Wheels & tires 29x3(already located)
Dropper
Paint(don't worry @stb222 I'm actually painting it)
Fork/hub upgrade/update to 110x15

Need new thread for 2021

More worried bout that spacer stack, positive rise stem and riser bars. Shits sky high.

Another brother with a real Banshee! I love that frame too. It was a toss-up for me between the Morphine and Scratch, I went for the missing link (Scratch), also set up SS.
I thought you'd like it! Knew you had a thing for the Banshees (saw your Scratch earlier in the thread). It's a fun frame and I'm pumped to have it built up and running again.
