so i made an attempt today to defer my ikon pass until next year given my injury....they told me to go fuck a cat in so many words 🙂 oh well.

see if they would consider a transfer....

I asked, NOPE.
They can't say no to letting a handicap on the mountain.

We are off to Utah at the end of next month. While soon, it's a long time for things to change.

Vermont this coming weekend. Hopefully this weather event stays as snow and does not turn to rain.
Where are you going to ski in Utah? You're in for real treat. I juts got back last night, while I didn't have any powder, I never heard my skis once. So soft! Unless you're going during a holiday, you won't believe how there are so few people on the slopes compared to VT.
They have so much snow, its crazy!

I've never been to Tremblant, how would you compare the terrain to Killington?
I hope it snows up in Vermont for you, I don't think its looking too good, though.

Utah is still TBD but there are 6 Ikon hills in the SLC area. I think we're going to hit Snowbird, Deer Valley, Alta, then the other 3 days are TBD. Maybe some of those more than once. Maybe check out some of the other 3 (Solitude, plus 2 I forget).

Tremblant is similar to Killington in terms of size. I prefer Tremblant because it feels more spaced out, and it's easier to navigate. Every lift at Tremblant goes to the top of the hill. I feel like Killington can take a long time to get from one side (Bear Mountain) to the other (Ramshead).

Killington for sure makes more snow. Like way TF more snow.
Tremblant feels like it has more glades if that's your thing.
All in all, they are pretty similar as it pertains to the east coast. Say, compared to Windham.
Tremblant is often fairly icy...welcome to the East. This past holiday there was almost no ice, so that was great.

And yeah, the forecast for this coming weekend went from 14" to shit.

going to have to take @Norm and the crew to Snowbird, Alta and deer valley......Solitude, Brighton and snowbasin would be more on the "if we get to it" list...Not that I dont love them, but for a first time Utah skier, you kinda have to see the little cottonwood canyon stuff, and deervalley will be a nice, easier day.

You probably know this, but Deer Valley and Alta are skiing only.
Deer Valley has a great complimentary mountain tour. 1 for intermediates and one for experts. They show you around the mountain, I would highly suggest that.
Snowbasin is definitely worth the trip from Salt lake.

I'm guessing your staying in Salt lake. The drive up to Alta and Snowbird can be a real bitch on the weekend, I would avoid Saturday at all costs. Go during the week. Same thing with Solitude. If you are skiing out there on Saturday, use that day for Deer Valley or Snowbasin, they will be the least crowded.

You must be so PUMPED, it's your first time skiing out west, right. I'm a little jealous!

Alta and Deer Valley don't allow snowboarding.....WTF?

If you all didn't ski in my blind spot, I wouldn't cut you off.

Jupiter peak - hike up, nobody to bother ya. I never went off the other side - probably a bad idea without a split board?

Isn't that crazy? How many families can't go there because somebody snowboards. I don't even know the rational, but they ain't changing, that's for sure.

I could see Deer Valley, they have a rep to maintain - Last time i was there, someone handed me puffy booties in the lodge, so i didn't need to walk around in ski boots for lunch.
This was 30+ years ago - before I found my true self 😉

it is a little silly in my opinion...especially as someone who has skied snowbird countless times in my life....97% of snowboarder cant/wont do any real traversing to get to any of the good stuff anyway....Like you want to get WAY out into the bookends in the mineral basin on a board...you are going to be pretty unhappy....and while I love Alta, you'll be traversing all day to get to the good stuff

you mean this area when you say other side? Actually having hiked everything in park city...I feel like once you get thru "the hike" you could most likely strap in and get down without having to take your board back off several times

We are actually flying in/out on Saturday, specifically because of the above. We'll be skiing Sunday to Friday.

isn't there a way to drop into the neighboring canyon?
Ending up at the base of one of the other lodges, then take a bus back to PC ??
It was a guided tour for experts (i think) - kindofa out-of-bounds, but monitored experience.

Long time ago.

ohhh....so on the "backside" of what we are looking at on the map is guardsmans pass, which I do still believe is closed in the winter to cars (although they finally paved it).....So if you went off the back you would end up down on the pass eventually. While im sure you could get some fresh tracks on a few short runs....im REALLY weary of back country in utah unless you are with someone who is really in the know....so dangerous.

Ive been out twice this year...I am insanely jealous of what has been happening out west. I'll be out in CO in March but my luck the weather will change and well get slammed here.

what a year to be going to utah for a ski trip and not be able to ski. At least my wife and my son will get to tho.... Ah well, I feel like nothing has ever topped this winter we had there in 93 IIRC...that was pretty insane.
