Flat pedal shoe recommendations

These are made by the folks who designed and made the 5.10 brand of climbing and mountain bike shoes... not sure if “cheap” is how they do things considering their history.

i'm sure they know their shit and have the best intentions but these look like a first draft in my opinion, like off-brand sneakers you can buy in walmart. I have owned several pairs of fiveten and giro mtb sneakers and they all just look more refined in my opinion, thats all.

Anyone using ride concepts? Can anyone vouch for their durability and especially does toe box room compare to 5/10S. I would just grab a pair of freerides unless someone convinces me differently. Pair of freerides i have now were pre Adidas so got many years out of them but have now seen better days. I already have impacts for winter riding so no need to suggest those.

Forget model but I didn't like the rc that I had , narrow and grip was meh at best . I'm pretty much using specialized flat shoes now . Have more grip than any 5.10 I've used . Sizing is kinda weird tho might take a few tries to get it right .

I used 5.10 Freerider Pros for a couple seasons and RC Livewire's for the last 10 months or so.

Toebox is definitely tighter on the RC's, durability seems better so far though. Admittedly I've gone mostly clipless at this point so I use them far less than I used to.

Another 5-10 Impact user when I ride flats (I switch between flats and clipless). I have both low top and mid-top versions, although I mainly wear the mid-tops. I like the extra toe and ankle protection when riding through rocks.

I'm currently using RC Livewire & Powerline shoes. I've used 510 Freerider, Freerider XV1, Freerider Elements, Freerider EPS (low & mid) and Impact (low & high) in the past, most of them would have been pre Adidas. I was using the regular Freeriders about 7-12 years ago, but stopped as I found them too flexible for pedaling (my feet hurt). Size 11 is usually a good fit for me with 510's (11.5 for the EPS), I have wide'ish feet.
The RC's seem to run smaller than the 510's, I'm using size 11.5 Livewire & 12 Powerline. The toebox on the Livewire is noticeably low height, I feel it on my big toe. I've been using the RC's for 1-1.5yrs, about 1000 -1500miles on each pair. The tread is still fine on the Livewires but is worn down on the Powerline's, that could be due to the smaller dia. pedal pins on that bike.

I know you guys will all say convert to clipless or die... But I prefer flats and need new shoes. My 20 dollar wal-mart skate shoes are shot. To be honest the walmart skate shoes lasted me 3 years but where never the most comfortable and are a pretty sloppy fit which I think is leading to my foot pain while riding. I have been looking at the five ten freerider pro based on reviews. But it seems like my shoe size (size 13) is unobtainium in almost every five ten style. I also don't want to spend a fortune (another reason for my sticking with flats). Where should I be looking for a quality shoe in my size? I dont ride a ton each year, but its mostly at wildcat... which seems to eat everything bike related in a short period of time.
I have the Specialized 2FO DH flat 3 years old. They have firm soles and are wearing well. I have a size 9 shoe and the 44 fit my feet well.

I switched to Ride Concepts last year and been happy. I also like that they are a rider owned company.
Probably not a concern for your foot as i recalled you thought 5/10s were too boxy. I have about 3 other shoes i could not get along with because the toe box was too tight. Thats why im trying to find out if i should just stick with 510s. How about these specialized shoes toe box? Looking for others who need the big toe box to chime in.
Thanks in Advance and to all who have chimed in, much appreciated.

I'm running the RC Vice for DJ stuff and the RC Tallac for trail biking. Both work well and I like the D30 soles for if I have to step/run off like on a loop out. I find the soles are stiff but the overall shoe is way more comfortable than the 5-10's I had.

I find the specialized has ample room for my D width feet.

Like my fork recommendation just get specialized but a size up than your street shoe . Example I wear 9.5 us shoes and work boots in wide if available. Specialized I'm wearing what they call a 10.6 us . Nice and comfy . Insane grip . Held up to a full season of dh riding . Stiffness is right between freerider and freerider pro .

This evening had my first ride on my new kicks.
@Ryan.P your spot on, the 2FO DH were comfortable out of the gste. I should of retired those 5/10s 2 seasons ago. Great shoe great fit, took a shot at my normal size and were perfect. Felt good to really push through the heals and no discomfort. I was getting a lot of hot spots before not even hint today. I also feel like my foot is protected well. Thanks to all who recommended and gave their time to answer!
