Johnny Utahs Bike Change Operation

Still on track - little over eight hours on the bike this week. Given the amount of rain we had I will take it.

I took the week off and tried to tackle as many household projects as I could - my father is in pretty rough shape so I am thinking it will be a long fall/winter and I need to get as ahead as I can.

Took a rainy afternoon and tuned up the bikes as well as put a new tire on the Salsa and Husky - I love it when that happens as it means I am riding.

Lots of pines exploring occurred as well!

Amazing how fast the weeks go by - I wanted to keep this going, so I am back

We had friends out for a camping trip a few weeks back - with this I was given some sort of cold that I have been fighting for the last two weeks (not COVID - I broke the tests out), and gave me wife. Great.

My dad is fighting hard, but it is indeed a fight. We had a wedding on his side, it was great seeing him spend time with all of his family - but his captivity is greatly diminished. My mom has been a trooper.

Side by sides are able to be made street legal in NJ - this one forgot how important it is to secure fuel cans as well as use a can meant for offroad/go-fast applications. Fuel leaked out and hit the exhaust - boom. I stopped to check and see if everyone was okay and went along my way. This went from spark to burn down in less that two minutes.

Next years firewood was dropped off - I find cutting/splitting all of these extremely relaxing.

I ran into an elderly couple who had become pretty stuck at sunset in a 2wd vehicle. We were appx. Five miles from any road - the man’s wife was preparing his walker to start walking out😳. People are built different down here - I love it. Dug his tires out by hand and gave him a good push - on his way. I give them credit for being out there.

Allaire. Man this place needs a haircut. I put five or six hours in and have a plan to get the main park cut up by year end. Now that the shore traffic is slowing down I plan on attacking this at a fast pace.

I had to travel up to Easton with the rest of the day free. Temps were supposed to be 91 and humid at 12pm and I was starting a ride at 8:30am. This opened up two items

1. Where am I going to ride?
2. What bike am I going to bring?

I did not want to get lost in the Heat and am also realizing I am going to need some sort of trail bike as I am loosing the desire to ride my fat bike in the rocks and have no desire to ride my gravel bike in them either. More to come on this as I a kind of want a 29” trail/cc bike as well - I like the Specialized Epic but I think I have a way to go on my training before I upgrade my equipment - this may be addressed over the winter if things go well.

Anyway - I ended up riding the Canal path from Easton to New Hope - the plan was for a 5 hour-ish run but this was cut short. After an hour and a half or so I was running into construction every 1/4 mile or so that pushed me off the path and onto the road - the road in that area is tight/winding and scared the poop out of me (imho way easier to get hit by a car than I am willing to accept) so I elected to turn around and make a few stops on the way home.

Fall is right around the corner - FB reminded me with an eight year old picture of my last single speed.

So sad about the side by side.

I saw one with a NJ plate on a road the other day. I thought i was seeing things.

There are a good amount of them on the road in sand land. Some of the municipalities down here do not acknowledge the legality of them as it is done through loopholes - this has created issues for some people I know. My understanding is they need to be registered to a business out of State and cannot have a lien on them.

Some of them are like miniature cars - The Polaris Ranger can come with HVAC and a dump bed, fully sealed from the elements. Of course it costs as much as a car.

It’s been a hot minute.

Dad’s condition deteriorated quickly this month, creating an environment that was dangerous for both of my parents if he stayed in his home. At this point we have moved him to a care center and are in our final days. Boy this has been a fast track to growing up on a different level. I don’t post this for sympathy but rather a kudos and nod of respect to those that have been through this or are going through this with a loved one.

Goal-wise I have been happy, while I have not posted about this, I am down about 20lbs and have been living sober with cleaner eating for almost 100 days. I can never loose weight if beer and junk food are in my life.

Fire wood has been cut and split - not sure what it is about splitting firewood, but I enjoy it.

Lightened the Jeep up - took out almost 1000lbs, now sitting at 5800lbs vs the previous weight of 6850.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

Beer and some junk food are a bit excessive currently. I need to reel it in a bit.

Envious of that stack. Had 2 cords dumped in the driveway on Monday. Is that stack just to burn in the firepit or also inside?

I am up to eight chords as I double the piles up and have added since that picture - basically just burn in the garage (my second home) and out in the fire pit (my TV).

Thanks for the love!

Glad you are getting healthy again,
Splitting wood is sort of like riding bikes as we do these things the demons tend to fall by the wayside.
Hope things with your Dad work out Dude.
