Going Long and Hard.

Also, ummm…Current trail conditions at Rainy Pass.

I’ve been posting in the Not BIYF thread and not here but I’ll post some poop here. We are 1 week out from ITI start. As of right now there’s almost no snow on course. I’m going to run the same setup as last year because it could snow while we’re out there, it’s Alaska.

Here’s my bike. I’m bought a new rear bag from JayP because he’s my friend and started his own company, represent.

I’ve not sure what gearing to run on such a fast course, currently riding a 32x17 which could be OK. My other wheels have a 20t. 32x20 might suck the first day on the river? IDK, I’ll know more after the racer’s meeting later today, whatever I pick will be wrong at some point 😂

Taper started today. Yesterday was my last 5-hour day. Every weekend this month has been long so the legs should be no issue at all.
Can you just change the cog as needed or it's not allowed? Asking for an ignorant friend...

Got into Anchorage at Midnight last night, or this morning? Built Elsa first thing after I woke up to make sure TSA didn’t break or lose anything.

Sean had a Doctor’s Appt so I went out for a local loop to make sure everything works. I brought my normal trail kit and Ragnaroks to take advantage of the non-ITI riding out here.

Gonna be warm all week. It’s usually 20ish degrees colder on the river and around Rohn but still really warm. Normally the river is 20 Below. Should make for a fast 1st day. Being single-speed I’d imagine I’ll be at the back and probably not get a spot to sleep at CP2 so that might force a big push to Skentna or Shell Lake? Not gonna really think about it and roll with whatever goes down. Bivying at 20 degrees would be pretty stellar.

I see a lot of folks are running a down tube bag in the horse shit catcher position. Knowing the amount of muck and moisture those bags are going to pummeled with over the duration of the race, what typically are people stowing in them? The only things I think I would be comfortable putting there would be Mylar blanket, sealed fuel canisters, cordage, waterproof ground sheet and non-precision tools (cone wrench, mud stick, mallet, etc.)

As long as you do it yourself, there are no rules. I can bring a whole group and swap it out if I wanted. I do run a second cog on the hub just in case the gearing is too tall…
remember when @Dusty the Whale got mad i switched my gear at a SS endurance race
