Going Long and Hard.

Did Jim ever explain how he navigates the course? Compass and map maybe? Following tracks? I assume he's not pulling out his phone and checking Google Maps.

I have so many questions when he gets back.
based on previous years, he will check in here and blog some tidbits while out on the course if possible. otherwise it will be an info dump of vivid details and mindblowing pictures when hes done.

Tyson Flaharty has finished!!

Apparently he got past the happy River Steps unscathed, that did him in last time.

One pitfall is the tendency to follow others and not navigate on your own.
CR and PR made a wrong turn towards the "Hells Gate" option but Jim knew better, did not follow, and continued towards Rainy Pass and Dalzell gorge!
Those two guys are already about four hours' worth distance of track. Scarry. I hope they will be alright.

PR and CR are taking the Hells Gate option, used some years when there is no trail made down Dalzell Gorge by the trail breakers. Down the gorge the trail crosses the stream a bunch and sometimes bridges have to be made. PR and CR perhaps wanted a new experience or thought it woukd be faster than climbing rainy pass and negotiating the hazardous gorge.

Watching the replay, they weren't far from Rohn when they turned around and went back the way they came, probably following their own tracks. I'd like to get a race report from them on what happened.
