Going Long and Hard.

Winter is coming!

Quick question Jim: I’m considering going N+1 and purchasing a FatBike. I would only ride it when winter biking conditions get unfriendly and studded fat tires on some towpath seems like the way to go. As a bonus the ability to rig it up for bikepacking on quad-trails too rough for my Cutthroat would be great.

Any specific bikes that you think I should be looking at?

Thanks in advance W

W,

I kind of like having the fork on my Fatboy for trail riding. It effectively doubles the suspension provided by the fat 4.6" tires.

Have another week off from events so spent time dialing in this setup. It’s fun. 2026 Brevet Season actually starts November 1st so I have that and probably the race in the dump before Thanksgiving. I’ve been toying around with the idea of hitting Fat Pursuit on the SS to keep my winter chops up. Maybe Wendigo? Surprisingly both events cost about the same…

Anywho. Biggest thing I’ve been trying to acclimate to on this bike is the low BB. My comp bike BB is almost 80mm higher so the front end is much heavier feeling on a the P.3

At some point I’m gonna buy a Hex frame and swap this stuff and the stuff from my other bike and put this back to stock. King Cheeto has made that scenario impossible for the moment.

Started trainering for the season. Did a week of Rouvy in a free trial but when it ended I restarted Zwift. Mostly for the TT cup.

I missed the 1st week so I started tonight for week 2. It bumped me down a group because I don’t ride in the trainer enough to get points or whatever they use to sort the groups.

Anywho. I warmed up for almost 40 minutes and then hit probably the hardest 13 minutes I’ve ever done in my life. I just wanted to stay over 160bpm and 5w/Kg…I almost blacked out coming through the line, and I probably won’t be able to walk tomorrow but…

I don't feel like doing math - how much do you weigh now?

and that is nuts for an old guy like you 😀

185.

I can still fake my way through a TT, it’s the only effort I’ve been able to maintain from my racing days. The track bike also averages power higher than a road bike so this would be closer to a 400 watt effort outside…
