Basically Philly shipyard hasn’t really produced anything in years. The ship fitters were in the UA which I belong to so in the 90 ‘s when there was not much going on my local and 3 other local took them in according to where they lived. Just trying to train pipefitters and welders would take 5 years. Just like house building not to many American young adults don’t want to do this work. I was one of the full time plumbing instructors. When I retired I went to a local vo-tech to teach high school students I quit after 30 days. I only had 3 students who wanted to learn the remainder wanted to bake, cook or do hair like reality tv. The pay was good for me $34 an hour with benefits and I would have had another pension wasn’t worth it. I think they should bring shop class back to middle school. Instead of trying to prepare everyone for college.I mean this is reality.....we are planning on having south korea build ships for us....I mean shipbuilding.....The same country that once built 9000 war vessels during wwii...we can't even find enough people to build our own warships...and these high paying jobs. My point being....I am highly skeptical of our ability to reshore manufacturing.....We can't even build ships for our navy.
100%I think they should bring shop class back to middle school. Instead of trying to prepare everyone for college.
I used to have to go to Washtenaw Community College for UA instructor training. Now I will make a short point it was more like a technical school and a trade school which you would graduate with an associate's degree with your vocation. The campus where the school's footprint was bigger than Stocktons less the dorms. The list os the vocations would be too big to list.100%
Shop type classes should never have been removed. I would easily say they have a higher value than the Freshman/Sophomore general classes in college that have nothing to do with actual degrees
I wonder if that's the college I got some credits in after apprenticeship at the Edward R Gehm training center in hazlet. I remember they gave us credits towards a degree, but I never did anything with them.I used to have to go to Washtenaw Community College for UA instructor training. I watch a lot of Russian content on Youtube.@olegbabich - your perspective is very important to me.
hard to look at it from the inside - you can look at it from outside.
can you comment on non-english news perspectives?
maybe some links to places you like where we can do a translate
Did you finish your apprenticeship?I wonder if that's the college I got some credits in after apprenticeship at the Edward R Gehm training center in hazlet. I remember they gave us credits towards a degree, but I never did anything with them.
Yep, and was a journeyman for another 6 years before leaving to become a nurse (not the best decision I've ever made, lol).Did you finish your apprenticeship?
So y'all can keep bringing up this point but I can't shoot it down as a meaningless argument for all the points you made? What's good for thee not good for me?im not sure why you or anyone else continues to argue this point....everyone is QUITE aware that the base of each party is as devoted as a college football fan and exists solely to see the other team lose.....The other side losing feels better than their own team winning....that is what we are living in....If your desire is to see the two sides be nice to each other again.....I mean I would suggest waking up from that fantasy.
Norm, come on, all I pointed out was that categorizing a large swath of people as poorly educated, unable to think critically, and unable to think outside their own local point of view is insensitive. Nothing else. The current administration ran a campaign in swing states based on sheer hatred of trans athletes/people. Having spent some time in a swing state, this platform was strong. It was relentless in the media there. There was literally no other item on the political agenda.
The current administration won those swing states on that platform. The OP you are aggressively responding to has come to the quite logical conclusion that this is pretty fucking disturbing, and the people who voted for the current administration based on that are, by extension, pretty fucking disturbing.
The current administration ran on a platform of exclusion and hate. Perhaps I can grant you that these people can think critically. Let's just assume for the sake of this argument that every single voter in Ohio can think as critically as any of us. The logical conclusion you can easily draw from this is that their logic values minorities, immigrants, the trans community, women, or any non-white person as inferior. There were women in these states openly saying that a woman should never be president.
While this does not categorize every single Ohio conservative, it does swing the pendulum enough such that we are where we are.
Random thinking out loud: I also suspect that you did not grow up in a wealthy area. Let's be clear, I grew up poor. I went to a high school that was pretty much bottom 5% in the state. We had no money. We entertained ourselves by banging rocks together. While a lot of these people are, "My people," I have grown enough to know that "my people" are wrong.
Not really my wife and daughter are nurses. Did you get your BSN? On credits I will have to get in touch with the training coordinator.Yep, and was a journeyman for another 6 years before leaving to become a nurse (not the best decision I've ever made, lol).
I would check with your local vo-tech.Are there votech schools for adults? I wouldn’t mind learning how to use power tools safely.
