Tariffs...what to make of them.

me looking for that doge check

Oddly enough, I received a tax refund from the IRS last week. A fairly substantial amount... which makes no sense to me as by my calculations my combined refund over the past three years amounts to a little over $100... so I just kept rolling the refund over... I logged onto the IRS site and I'm not sure how they came up with that refund, but there it is... along with the same taxable income I came up with... I've been advised to wait until I can talk to the IRS before depositing the check. Apparently if they make a mistake sending you a refund, you can be asked to return it, plus interest...
Next step... finding time in my work schedule to call the IRS...

I had the opposite happen - sold a property in the third quarter, paid the 3rd quarter taxes 2 weeks late (who knew it was due 9/15 and not 9/30?)
They used the 12-month average income method and charged penalty and interest for the whole year up through the payment date, rather than a single penalty and 2 weeks interest.
Working through that now.

For those who may be curious on the outcome of this, the IRS sent a follow up explanation letter that arrived a couple of days ago and I finally made the time to dig into it this morning. It looks like I missed further information about Line 13 on the 1040i and didn't realize that's where my 8889/HSA deduction is entered.

Well looks like the love affair has ended

"Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate," Musk wrote, adding "Such ingratitude."

You hate to see it.
This would be funny if it was to prepubescents, but it is the richest man in the world and POTUS. It is a fk embarrassment to us Americans. It has been a long 3 years of tRUMPS second term.
