I call bullshit. Until someone brings in an e-bike rusting away from their own sweat on a Thursday demanding they need their bike for Saturday's Ironman I don't think it's even close.

E-Bikers are significantly worse. They expect you to warranty a motor from a bike they bought used while they wait because they're going to Cromwell to do laps 🤣

(that isn't even a joke BTW)

Artificial intelligence? Another word for artificial is fake, so you are quitting fake intelligence, does that prove your point? I think not, with type 2 the key thing insulin resistance. What that means is person with insulin resistance has to cut carbs. No bread, no grains, no sugars , potatoes and starches in root form, they even have look at plant carbs like beans. A person with type 2 has to cut carbohydrates and when they do they will drop the weight….. so is the weight the cause of type 2 or is the insulin resistance the cause of the weight.

Why can't people just make choices and have other people leave them be? You want an e-Bike, ride one. You don't? Then don't. Riding an e-Bike doesn't make you fat. Riding a regular bike doesn't make you skinny. One isn't morally superior to the other. Sheesh, there are enough real things to worry about rather than what other people are choosing to do with their free time.

Yes, who cares, but the group buying the emerging tech always pushes it on the rest of us, 29ers, fat bikes, 29+, SS, the new FS, the new new fs, e shifting, e droppers, etc.

Should we revisit the Tariff Thread to test these theories?

Thanks and very well said. I was planning to get an ebike this year, but came to the realization that it wouldn't lead to me riding more, which is rarely these past few months. As for the diabetes part, my dad was a type 2 for about 10 years and probably 10 years before that, as parents don't tell you their ailments. I took off working for over a year to be his caregiver and learned a lot about the disease having taken him to his doctor appointments, ER visits and dialysis three times a week. Type 2 is a terrible disease but preventable. Some people are more susceptible due to hereditary traits, and I'm one of them. I monitor my bloodwork closely and eat fairly healthy but my A1c is inching close to being an early diabetic. It's easy to tell someone to eat better or exercise more to avoid diabetes without being in their shoes. You want to know about diabetes, talk to your doctor. Also keto diets didn't work. I'mI did lose a little weight but my blood results were horrible, my cholesterol was never that high.

After doing the bike demo from halters (thanks @jdog !!!) a ebike is looking like more likely in the future. When is this future? Idk? But my next mtn bike will probaby be an ebike. They're so much fun and not as hard on my body.
Glad to get you on one. Please keep me in mind when you are ready to make the leap. We sell many brands and between them I can usually find a closeout on something to your budget happier. Or the latest and greatest!!

I understand that e-bikes are not for everyone and not for every ride. I do think that these demos are valuable to educate riders about what these things really are.

The public at large cannot understand the difference between a Suron and an Ebike. Getting avid riders on a munit hr demo can help clarify what an #ebike is and Isn't.

Not sure if your directing this to us here or the industry. I talk to the inquiring my experience but never throughout this thread say you have to have one.

I guess it's part of today's culture to post in threads that you should of hit ignore a long time ago. I don't drink alcohol which means you don't see me in beer thread trolling people who do.

Trust me, shit posting was a big part of my alcoholism. Luckily for society I'm a sober dude which makes me a kinder gentleman and much less visible on social medias 😜

A few weeks ago I was riding and I saw quintessential bad stereotype ebiker. He was overweight, it was a cheap ebike with fat tires, it was hub drive, it had mechanical disc brakes, (though he was wearing a helmet and actually was pedaling).

My first reaction was to cringe, but then I thought: this guy is out exercising when he probably would not have before. He looked like he was having fun which means he will continue to exercise.

We can't expect people to lose 40 pounds on a treadmill before they get the privilege of buying their $7k ebike. The cheap ebike can serve as an entry drug. Get people to like the sport and when it breaks or their skill increases then they get a better bike.

Are you saying trolls are alcoholics? LOL. Just kidding but I'm with you 100%. I don't drink anymore either, so you won't find me in any of the drinking related threads to flex what little muscle I don't have to give people crap for drinking.

As for new tech, whenever someone mentions the latest and greatest I never felt pressured to jump on that bandwagon. If anything, I do the opposite and see if that new thing answers my "so what" question. Does it fix a problem? Does it provide significant improvement to the original to justify the cost (in terms of money, time, maintenance, effort, etc.)? If it makes sense, then I search for reviews and evaluate further. Yes, I suffer from analysis paralysis sometimes. People say that's a trait of an engineer. That might be true but all I can say is that's just me. I like nice things but bling for the sake of bling is not my thing and people have busted my balls about it but I stand my ground. Some of you know I'm as stubborn as a mule, sometimes to a fault, but I always caveat by saying "that's just me". Not right or wrong, just me.

Anyway, so any new emtb owners in the making here? How about that Amflow, huh?

I saw the same thing however the gentleman I saw was in his 80's. The first time I passed him he was pushing his bike up the little trail next to the steps that lead down to the bridge to Rumson between H&H. I didn't think much of it as I figured he just didn't feel comfortable riding up the short steep incline and he was at the top already.

Did my loop at Huber and was entering Hartshorne when I passed him again. At this point I realized the bike wasn't working and he was just pushing it. He had literally walked out of one sneaker which was a few feet behind him in the sand and he was still pushing. I couldn't convince him to accept any help other than me getting his sneaker. Wouldn't take any help getting back to his car and all I could think was this guy is going to die because of this cheap, heavy bike. Not sure what the right move on my part should have been. In hindsight I probably should have tried to contact the parks department and give a heads up.

90% of the time the standard 85-90nm motor is more than enough power. Even mid-support motors are plenty most of the time.
But I've been on some really cool climb-trails with big berms and rollers that having extra power would have been a blast!

I can confirm. I ride a regular bike and I am still fat.

I'm already committed; when I turn 60 (in eight years), I am buying an ebike, starting testosterone replacement therapy and taking Ozempic. Can't wait to feel young again!

👆 I am 100% serious.

100% agree on the benefit of e-bike demos, even if it’s just for educational purposes. Going into Sunday’s demo I was pretty firmly in the F#ck No camp. I’ve tried e-bikes in the early days and absolutely hated pretty much everything about them. But… knowing just how much development has gone into them over the past few years, I figured, why not take one out on trails I had just rode a few days before and see what these new ones are all about.

First off, they are light years ahead of what I’ve previously ridden.
Ignoring the propulsion and weight (weight only noticeable in certain situations) What surprised me was the fact that the Pivot Shuttle AM rides almost exactly like a Switchblade or Transition Sentinel (both bikes are familiar to me). It felt like a bike, something I could not say in good conscience about older e-bikes.

I think it was also important to demo the bike exclusively with others who I regularly ride with all on e-bikes (though all on different models), some with, while others w/out e-bike experience. Kinda helped with the learning curve (and there IS one) and to keep the dialog open and honest.

The verdict? These things are fantastic. The whole cheating thing is asinine. Who the f#ck is being cheated? That’s just a bunch of gate keeping nonsense, much like sock height or the number of spacers under someone’s stem. Pathetic.

Am I running out to get one? No. Not because of anything other than I simply do not like the way they pedal at this point in time. I don’t like the stock assist levels but those can be fine tuned in the app. Nor do I like having overrun, but that can be turned off too. Here’s the problem. Every MTB bike I own (and that’s several) have/has instant entertainment… that element is nonnegotiable. Regardless of whatever hub the wheel has, the motor itself has some built in “slop” and I simply can’t get past that… not unless I’m willing to retire all my other bikes (which is not an option for someone like me).

When they come out with a 140/150 or better yet a 130/140 full power bike with a long lasting battery (none of this just add a range extender nonsense) a full display on the top tube (none if this status bar crap, I want numbers, all the numbers) that weighs around 45lbs and has 6° or less of play in the cranks…I’ll be first in line.
