6 Mile Run Conditions

TRAILS ARE MUDDY!
Thought it was a beautiful day for a ride. Totally forgot about the whole freeze thaw thing. Trails are no good. Sticky peanut butter. Went less than a half mile in from the Rt26 lot and turned around.
Whomp, Whomp 👎🏻
Thank you for turning around 🙂

Everyone should assume that after about 9.30a the trails will thaw and not be ridable. Maybe earlier if they are in full sun.

You wouldn't need to ride that far if you'd started at the canal lot. This is in the field there :

From now until the end of freezing temps, if it is above freezing and there as been a hard freeze the night prior.. IT WILL BE MUDDY AS FK!

Not that bad on the Rt 27 side. Lots of dry sections at first. So I was optimistic.
Didn't really seem muddy. Just damp in sections. But then I noticed the dirt sticking to my tires. That's when I called it.
On a positive note, someone in the parking lot was getting ready to ride and I told him it was muddy. He got back in the truck and left.

The trails this afternoon as you leave the canal lot :

I was gonna stay quiet but I’m so irritated about this so had to say something without starting an online war with known offender.

I have seen posts online in at least 2 FB groups with the people who contributed to this on Sunday since it was posted relatively openly with zero thoughts about what damage was done.

One of the offenders even posted himself and his bike all muddy like it’s some f*cking badge of honor. 🤬

I am not even a regular MTB rider and this is nauseating. As is the video he posted of him and his buddies whooping it up with how much “drag is on my wheels with the mud and the fender. “.

After taking a breath I will have to assume it’s pure ignorance and this person needs an education about riding muddy trails.

Trail team let me know if you want details so we can contact and educate this guy and get them signed up for trail maintenance to fix all the damage they caused.

It's a shame the trails can't be closed the way Nox seems to do. Granted, I think it took a few years for the seasonal closures to be effective. I'm also not sure if they have a similar 'Trails Closed" signs at other entry points other than at the Tower Rd lot.

I'm working on that with the park. We need something that's fairly durable as previous attempts have been ripped off and thrown on the side of the trail.

Saw that horrible video posted by an admin of a FB group. He then attacked the guy that called him out. 2nd post I've seen on this page with videos riding in extreme rain and mud. Hopefully they learn some basic trail etiquette.

Yup it’s terrible. I thought about leaving the FB group but now I will stay to call out that stupidity and report it since so many seem to be lacking 1% of common sense.

I opted out. I got argued down when I called out their Hartshorne group ride in a rain storm.
