For motivation.

I mentioned that I would give you the extra pint glass I won at the LM challenge. The glass is sitting on the counter still waiting to be collected. But in order to do so you need to come up and ride 100 miles with me. I'll even fill it with beer when we're done.

this is about as much motivation as giving a cycling cap to ride 6 mile the fastest...

Nice Kush, Glad to see you are the comeback...I will be following this thread for sure...For those who dont know this guy he started riding not even 2 years ago and stays with the best of em...This will be interesting thread to follow

1 year when the racing season started. Three months ago Vreeland said I can only use the newb card 9 more months, so I have 6 more months.

So let me get this straight. You want me to suffer for six hours AND then get kicked in the nuts when we're done? This reminds me of the motivation program during the Stalin years.
 
Weight and nutrition

I'm taking advantage of this "break" to really drive the weight down, kind of lemonade out of lemons. I found it hard to focus on disciplined and structured nutrition and do 10-12 hours on the bike a week. I also felt lethargic on the bike when I tried to go lean.

But this is also why I guess it's recommended that the time to implement your weight loss regimen is during the off-season, when training demands are less and you’re not competing.

Anyways, I've lost 5 pounds in 4 weeks, that is considered a healthy rate.

Intake of 2000 calories a day. That is a deficit of 1200-1500 calories if I'm swimming, and around 500 if I'm not. I'm bumping up my protein intake via whey. The strawberry is yummy.

How much more can I lose? I'm thinking ideally to get to 170. I'm 178 now.

The best tour climbers are generally less than two pounds of body weight for every inch of height (divide your weight in pounds by your height in inches to find this number). TDF average was 2.15lbs.

So at 5'10" I'm at 2.5lbs for every inch.

In order to be in the "TDF average" I'd need to weight 150lbs! Which is just not possible, feasible, or healthy for ME.

So I'd be happy at 170. Maybe 165. After that I think my returns be diminishing.

It won't be that bad, it will make norm feel good and your balls will be half numb from the ride anyways, so it may even feel good at that point.
 
Yeah man, have to say that my appetite is out of control the last 3 weeks. I'm never, ever full. Even on days off I'm hungry all day.
 
This year I think it will be different.

Has LA made any comments indicating that he is going to do this event this year. I'd be really surprised if he does. Leadville was more of a post-retirement fling. Kinda like his marathons. Now that he is racing again, I doubt he will commit the effort to train for Leadville.

Not to mention that he has mentioned he will be participating in triathlons as a part of this new deal with the Radio Shack team. Would be interesting to see how he did now though.

BTW, I still hate having such restricted access at work. I might as well be working in a cave. I have no idea what is going on, anywhere. Someone send me a PM if we go to war with North Korea. 😱
