Irene. Worst ever?

I was amazed they made it as far as they did with no way to see.

Ya really, I guess they went to army "breathing under water" school..wtf?

You can see the the engine air intake is above the cab, so im not suprised that the trucks were still running. Diesels do not have spark plugs, so as long as the are not sucking in water, they will normally keep running.

This is the street in front of our house. I can no doubt go door-to-door from my house to the bike shop, and probably liquor store. It has other limitations though. Probably can't get back once I pass through "the gorge" in town. Not exactly getting a lot of work done today. The river has crested at an all-time high in town. It hasn't gone up or down in about 4 hours, so I presume it's done going up. It's likely going to take another 3-4 days to be able to drive out of here.

Hey Norm, want to pick me up at Shop Rite tomorrow in your Kayak and give me a ride to work? 😀

-Jim.

The canoe may be best for that. Sure, it would give me something to do. Then maybe I could go for a bike ride outside my castle.

Anyone have any alligators?

no power

Still no electricity at my house in Bergen County. Rumors are that they opened the floodgates on the local reservoir to relieve some pressure which in turn flooded out the sub-stations :hmmm:. Looks like it will be another 2-3 more days til this gets sorted out.

My in-laws stuck it out in the mandatory evacuation county of Cape May... They had power the whole night and no flooding or downed trees

My sister has a bed-in-breakfast right on the beach in Cape May. She stayed instead of evacuating too. She never lost power either and no water in her place either (but all those places are built on stilts).

I guess I was pretty fortunate too. Ben and I were able to get in a nice ride today. If you can get your bike on a car and drive, head out to western Hunterdon, the roads are completely ridable.

I just got back from a ride around Cranford. The Rahway river totally flooded a lot of houses in town and 70% of the residents still don't have power.

But I must admit something like this does bring people together. Folks sharing generators, trash pumps, food, cleaning out basements...

As i rode around people didn't have a look of defeat on there face despite the fact that they had a basement full of water and in some cases water in the 1st floor of their house. Kids seem to love it, gangs of kids are riding around on bikes. Without power there are no video games, kids are entertaining themselves the old fashion way...which is good to see.
