Going Long and Hard.

I just eat ice cream straight up and skip the Chobani. FTR my point is that the Chobani with fruit is touted as a health food but it's not really that IMO. It's 56% plain old sugar. If you treat it like a treat, you're ok. JMO but I'm a fat slob.

I do eat plain Chobani. And ice cream. Goddamn, ice cream is awesome.

I like Fage yogurt. The fruity sugary stuff is separated so you can add as much as you want.

Whats so bad about sugar anyway though?

I have no self control with ice cream. At all. Like it's been permanently banned kinda no self control. Pizza is another one. I can eat 20 slices and feel nothing. So banned from the house. Point is, wait, what's the point? Oh yeah, if 100 calories of Chobani is the worst I got, I'll take it 🙂

I feel my protein intake is too high though. 65 grams today. May swap out my breakfast?

-Jim.

65 grams isn't high. 165 is.

Sugar makes your balls fall off. True. Bad because when you're eating 1500 calories you need all the nutrition you can get.

Once there was a man who wanted to climb a mountain.

I just did some bs calculator thing. Yeah, 65grams seems low. It came up with 125 for a slim build medium active guy. I don't think I'm that guy.

With Jeremy, I'm not climbing any mountains. If I were, being 140 pounds will make any of the paths easier. Not that I'll ever be 140 pounds, but it will help.

Im looking forward to getting that book so I can better understand the nutritional side.

What frame building class are you doing?

Vicious is having a 2 week class in the Spring Ive been eyeing...dumb school keeping me from committing though.

I'm going down to do the one at Brew. I booked it yesterday after going back and forth with Steve for the past few weeks about details. Originally I thought you were only able to make a single-speed frame but he says you can do pretty much anything within reason. I obviously have no idea what I'm doing so I'll stick to just a classic steel road frame...

-Jim.

I was just on the Brew site, reading about his frame class and looking at pictures. I'd be so into that, it isn't funny...

wouldnt step 1 be: learn how to use a tig welder with your eyes closed?

So are they teaching frame geometry? Or how to actually notch tubes, bend metal, weld, etc...

The whole nine. I'm pretty well versed in the geometry and design side so I'm hoping to spend more time getting dirty and melting some tubing 😀

My project will more than likely need Bondo.

Hey Jim - if you have any questions about the Brew class let me know. My buddy Mike and I did it a couple of years ago. The class is interesting for sure.

Like you said, your knowledge on geometry and design will be ample. And I'm sure you know plenty about the different tubesets with tapers and butting and such. My guess is you will know just as much as Steve about it and you might be able to skip a day of that and go right into the metal fab part.

The hard part is the welding. If you can get some torch time before hand that would help. Also notching tubes if you can to get the feel would be an asset.

But hit my up via PM or email if you want - I'd be more than happy to help.

Hey Don!! Where did you guys stay?

-Jim.

Someplace in Boone - I think the Hampton Inn. It was right within a strip mall area and across the street from a Home Depot. Downtown Boone is a pretty cool area with the college there. I just checked Brew's website and it looks like they moved so I'm not sure what is close/good. At his old spot, nothing was close by. I think Mike and I drove at least a half hour each morning and night to and from. And lunch took forever when we went out. By the last day we were packing lunch which saved a LOT of time.

Hit me up with any questions - even if I help out a just a little it would be worth it. The class is expensive when you factor everything in.

I went and saw Frank from FTW bikes when I bought mine, got a tour of his place. No F'ing way would I ever even try to make a bike myself. IIRC he used 4 different Bridgeports and a dozen hand built custom tools to make my bike.
Tig welding takes mega practice. I can do steel parts okay to make an exhaust, but aluminum is much much harder. It would be awesome to step into one of those shops and get hands on fun and see how it's really done. Just seeing the shop blew my mind on how difficult it is to make a bike (that weighs less than 5 pounds). Maybe building a straight gauge townie bike with brazed gussets is something I could handle with enough lessons.

practice up and throw together a ti in g2 geo for me, size med. you can throw those zipp's on it for me as well.

chopchop!

I would be all over these if they didnt have that silly PT.

Yep. This is all part of a grander scheme. I want to get a Quarq so I can run it on my road bike, then swap it onto the TT bike when needed. It'll also free up having to run one wheelset. There's also the possibility of swapping it onto the CX bike. All good stuff.

I had a grander scheme of getting on for the MTB as well. But I'd rather go down and make my own frame instead 😀

PS-Of the 6 dozen PMs and texts I got yesterday about my wheels, who's actually seriously interested? I think officially 2 of the wheelsets are spoken for? I rebuilt my rainbow wheelset to all black, murder!! Those are up for grabs, and brand new :getsome:

The ride? No the ride. The rain!! Sha, as if. I had to drive in to drop off all of said wheels. We have a couple long rides planned this weekend. Interested to see how many hours it takes on the bike to bonk from not eating any food for what will be a month? I have more than enough fat storage so maybe we can tap into that a bit more? 😱

170 pounds again this morning. As to be expected, the last 2 days of not riding have only been a 500 calorie deficit. The beginning of the week was also on the short side at only a few hours. This week has been a lot more like what you're "supposed" to do as most diets don't suggest cutting more than 3,500 calories a week. Screw those guys!!

-Jim.
