My Hovercraft is Full of Podcasts

I've got to check out this loop/see what roads it entails...so I know NOT to plan them in my ride from Roxbury! 😀 Nice job!

Norm, nice job on the Liberty Corner segment. You guys are killing that road (Lamington also). It's impressive that 5 of the top 10 on the LC segment are mtbnj riders.

I think what's most impressive is that the top 2 are dudes were once "circumferentially challenged". Shows what dedication to training can accomplish. Utah claims to not be able to climb...I think the numbers tell a different story, at least on short climbs like this one.

That's because they spent YEARS carrying around a ton of weight, so their legs are naturally stronger. Yet another unfair advantage...😛

when you passed me im pretty sure there were flames shooting out of my skull.

Great work on the climb, I think its awesome that we are basicly tied on this KOM...the matching power numbers are pretty funny.

When I passed you, you let out a particularly funny comment. Not the actual words but the way you said it. I don't think you were expecting me.

Yeah, it is funny that we're basically identical in every way on that. 434w across the board. I'm pretty sure I can put out an effort over 434w for the segment but without the leadout it's going to be slower. Also, after Lamington that's got to be the perfect storm to nail. Sub 3:00 is going to be a pretty tall order. Well maybe if I drop those 10 pounds I've been talking about. 🙂

I want to hit up the Lebanon 52 and drill those climbs 1 day. Are all of them defined on Strava? I have to imagine they are. That's a great way to work on that CP5 number. Turns out that despite my hand-wringing about my power sucking, I set a new CP5 personal best last night at 419w I think. I want to keep working on that. Jeremy has that 52 in his backyard but he's doing it Friday? Boo!

I'm out for racing Sunday - the rain makes the "shine only" event too much of a gamble to drive 2 hours only to find out it's cancelled. I'm weighing a SSaP pre-ride against going out to the Farmersville RR in between Reading & Lancaster. I really want to do that but it's a bit of a distance hole. Ilya wil be there. Utah is on the fence. Eric can't swing the 5 hours of total drive time from his house. It's hard to justify 4 car hours for a 1 hour race.

Either way, this weekend epitomizes taking what's there. In this case, dry Saturday morning over unknown Sunday.

Another note on the A ride - the recap is as such because it's such a fun/exciting ride. I never feel this stoked in mountain bike races with the exception of a few. The ST races and SSaP are 2 examples. But for the most part, the recap is as interesting as a training ride most days. This is why people gravitate, then get addicted to, road & cross racing. We need more ST races in the state.

Turns out that I spent more time in L5/6 than any other A ride this year. Average power was higher than any other ride (295w, counting 0s I believe). My max HR was the lowest of any A ride (no sprints) and my average HR was tied for lowest in the 6 A rides so far (155).

So highest average power, lowest average HR and a PR in my CP5. I guess that does jive with the idea that my form is coming along. I probably really should race this weekend. But I'm just not sold on that drive, especially solo.

I always like how different all our numbers are during these rides. This week I had my lowest AVG Power of only 233 watts...Although that's probably because I was riding the PowerCal and it doesn't pick up the high-end so well.

-Jim.

The various power measuring devices ignore 0s, so the zero-pedaling is not counted in our numbers. The powercal is going to weigh everything since it's HR-based. And the shorter/higher things won't be counted as much, you're right about that. I have to imagine that the powercal is going to be more accurate the more you're in the L2/3/4 range.

I rode my bike this morning, just recovery. It was wet so I took the MTB randomly out. I just don't feel like podcasting anymore. Maybe Lou should pick that up now. Maybe I'll talk in the car. I have nothing else to say though. I just really want to ride my bike and get faster and race and have fun.

On racing, I was all set to do Farmersville until Capers told me it sold out. Well that sucks, especially because I had gotten myself amped to do it. Had the wife on board and everything. We were going to coordinate with the folks, have Julia out there Friday, then I'd meet them after work, straight trip from Newark to PA. The race is about an hour from them. But they sold out. Bah.

I emailed the promoter who told me I could do the wait-and-beg thing on the day of. That's basically where you show up the day of the race, hope people don't show, and 15 minutes before the race they let people walk-up. This is a great way to make more money as a promoter, and to drive your users nuts. If 3 people don't show up and 4 people are there with the hopes that they can get in, well you're shit out of luck. My appeals to him as a fellow promoter fell on deaf ears. Blow me.

So Saturday is Jake's Gay Pride SSaP PreRide. That's an inside joke. Utah and I are going to wreck engine. That's the name of a band of some guy I know from a former life, Wreck Engine. I see him once every 2 years though so I have not been able to annoy him by asking him how his band Check Engine is doing. This is the guy who is borderline autistic in some ways. He can watch a Simpsons episode once and quote it word-for-word for years to come.

Waking up was hard today.

It looks nice outside.

I'm drinking tea.

Got the SS back from the shop (ok, wife dropped it off and picked it up, and Jim was nice enough to put it in the Awesome Van for Nat yesterday) and it's better now. This really ruins my idea to ride this bike only when I race. But like I said yesterday, the rain on Sunday just makes Saturday too valuable. They're not going to make the call on Sunday until Saturday 6:00 pm. That's too late to wait. Cupcakes and Iron Hill Brewery will just have to wait another year. It's not like my life has any shortage of cupcakes.

The guy who sits in the office near me is an absolute and complete buffoon. I mean this is one of those guys who has probably always had velcro sneakers. Like his whole life. He's on the Corporate Board of Directors. That's so goddamn sad to me it makes my brain hurts more than the allergies these days. And man, the allergies are brutal.

New MTBNJ logo in the works? Probably not, but it's funny. Learn to laugh. It's healthy.

There's really nothing today. Tomorrow is more of the same.

im really skeptical of this thing...just seems like there would be so many variables when you are not on a trainer that would throw it off. Would be interesting to see a side by side comparsion if you could put a PT on the bike two and use them both at the same time. The numbers would obviously be different, but it would be interesting to see if there was some kind of a consistant offset.

Is Falcon coming with us? I puncture my spare tube now.

For real? Didn't you swear off 26" wheels after crashing out of two races last year? I see you still haven't learned from when you dumped your dragon intimidator.

Anyone interested in an SSaP B-PreRide? I want to ride mountain bikes but not interested in doing a hot lap. Arby's afterward of course.

Yeah I think Arby's has to be on the plate for sure. Though it may be breakfast still when we're done.

Before you ask that kind of question don't you think you should at least read my post for the day? Or, you know, the weekend planner? Just sayin'.

That's not really fair since there are currently at least 2 weekend planners. And your post is cryptic at best. I get it, but hey I'm deranged.

If we all go together again we can make Pearl listen to engineering geek talk for 1.5 hrs.

I vote for 100mph ride in Bill's bro-dozer while dicussing the life and times of the space shuttle discovery.
