Commuting

I have seen people bypass the stairs on Manhattan side by riding the shoulder before you yield to get on the bridge (car lane). Then hop the barrier on to the walkway. The point of view is outbound.

Holy fugg that was a brutal ride in, rain felt like with being shot in the face with that wind. This should get me mucho bonus points in da base race.

It was horrible on my ride this morning. A downhill where I normally hit 40 was pure misery. I think I crossed the line from ride in anything to just stupid.
 
I caught tailwind this morning and thought my legs were going to fall off (I commute with a fixed gear).

Loved Mother Nature's trolling by pushing the sun out an hour after I got to work, too
 
thought I would share this FAIL!

Due to lack of sleep, yeah last night 2 hrs of half ass sleep. I left my house feeling like I forgot something.

Got to the lot only to find out I forgot my Gore jacket, my ballz shriveled at the thought. All I had was my short sleeve jersey and a weak ass hoodie. Prayed that there was something in basket in the back only to find a large unused garbage bag. So on it goes like survivor man and off. I would not have survived that freeze without the plastic. On my way back I was actually overheated.

NY to NJ GW was a bitch today. This time until May I will normally encounter heavy headwinds. Sometimes you will turn a corner and stop dead in your tracks and then pedal like your climbing the steepest hill around...
 
You should call me. I was actually up. I won't ride with you, but I can supply you with as many garbage bags as you want as long as I get to take a photo 😀
 
Sounds like winning to me there MatGyver- way to adapt.
 
wearing a garbage bag while pedalling in nyc is normal. if you showed up to a group ride with one you would prolly get some funny looks.
 
Does anyone commute in Newark? I'm looking for suggestions for roads to ride in on or stay away from and free parking locations.

I was thinking I might park in the Whole Foods in Vauxhall then ride Springfield ave to Clinton ave to Broad Street to Raymond Blvd to Penn Station.

Wow! There's a whole foods in Newark?
 
The Whole Foods on Vauxhall is on the Union/Millburn border. Newark has Soul Foods on Broad St.

Its the Hat trying get some comedic mileage out of my use of a garbage bag, crickets 😀

We had a hot pace in esp once hit harlem hill and three sisters. Glad you joined other wise i kinda golly lag in. Need more of this, we should get together with other commuters for group ride in like those evening rides. I will be interested in your loop you got around the hood jimmy. Do you drop down to the river on that loop?
 
I can make out the garbage bag now that I know what it is.

I must have went through just before you guys, I went Harlem to CP today too. I'd be up for meeting some mornings, its hard to keep the pace up these days. I get nice and warm after climbing into Fort Lee but am back to being chilly by the time I get to the park.

Matt, what time have you been getting to the bridge lately?
 
Honestly i have been lazy and starting from FL terrace so i would be willing to meet you at county park whatever time you want.

We should try to do say every thursday early and put some miles/time in. You/anybody game?

I am also good for fridays after work will bring proper bike doe.

Speaking of proper bikes turning the old hipster into a REAL hipster. Just ordered wheel build parts. Flip/flop rear so once i figure the right combo SS, i will be trying the fix commute in :getsome:
 
Cool idea on the rides-
I can make most post-work or pre-work rides on Wednesdays.
