Sandy Hook Re-opens May 1

What'd you find Jim? I didn't go on 5/4 based on the reports from dirtdog, but would love to try it out this Sunday.

I did ride in the water but not that far out. And I was on the bay side. I wouldn't suggest to do this actual loop, I'd go out to the end and around the base and then take the path back. There's nothing worth riding on the bay side, I just had to go out and make sure for myself...

Does anyone know if they are done paving? Friend of mine said that some of the roads were milled/prepped for paving. We want to ride up there tomorrow but not if the roads are not in good shape.

Thanks!

We went anyway....paved in spots, still milled in others. Hopped on the bike trail to avoid it. Not a bad ride.

Actually hit the beach today on the Muk after riding Hartshorne and Huber. It was the first time I have ever ridden on the beach and the Mukluk handled awesome!. Unfortunately, once I got past where the light house was, the wind was making the sand like being in a sandblaster, so I turned back. It was pretty cool though. I would like to take a full loop around the beach one day.

You didn't cut out too much. After you go around the tip of the Hook you pretty much run outta beach and have to take the bike path back. Unless you somehow hit low tide correctly...Then you can play in these things.

Cool...any reason the beaches to the east (I assume the ocean-side) were closed?

With all this freakin rain wreaking havoc on the dirt trails, the sand's looking like our best bet to fill our off-road jones...

The signs said that they were closed because of some bird migration. There was another one south of the nudie beach, but I ran through it because I pedaled super fast through there and didn't want to see the horrors of naked old people.

^^ I hear ya😀 So, what would the Hook be like early on a Saturday morning....any risk of getting chased off the beach for riding a bike among the sunbathers?

I rode right down the beach in front of the lifeguards and behind the fishers. The lifeguards and every official I saw just looked curiously and didn't say a word.

Thanks, viewed your strava....so when you say the beaches to the east were closed...was that just at the tip? (since it appears you still managed to ride a decent stretch of beach further south). Also, in the western leg, were you on a sand trail, or paved bike path/roads?

PS...love the tan saddle on the green bike. Normally I'm lukewarm on the Muk green, but the saddle sets it off nicely and makes for a real cool look. I'm sure it's comfy too.
