Hipster Keys
welcome to my....thing...

i dont know what this is going to turn into. but im not currently in the middle of remodeling my house...so i guess it will have to focus more on my training and adventure racing schedule

For those who dont know me. Im Aaron, for the most part im a lurker here, and im best known for getting luke into climbing, and trying to keep up with utah every so often on a training ride.

I also like to think that im the token adventure racer on the forum here, but who really cares...and if you dont know what adventure racing is, just know this...it is NOT obstacle racing or mud running.

Ive been keeping a training log on attackpoint for the past few years.
http://ar.attackpoint.org/log.jsp/user_7614

that site is really helpful, but for the most part i just log time and activity, and how many miles are on my running shoes. I dont really make many notes about what im doing, so maybe thats what this here will be.

So, to do something constructive, lets look over what i accomplished in training/racing last year, as far as time:

about 410 hrs total

128 hrs adventure racing
44.5 hrs rock climbing
70.5 hrs on mtb rides
87 hrs on the road bike
15.5 hrs of road running (104 miles)
35 hrs trail running (185 miles)
8 hrs on the XC skis (thank you early winter snows)
and some other miscelaneous gym type strength training

Ive never been that awesome at any sport in particular, but i have a huge desire do try and do anything...which i think is why i excel at adventure racing..because it involves so much, and i tend to not get burned out training, because i need to train in so many different disciplines.

the one discipline i totally lack training in is paddling, of which i have no excuse for, because i life on a freaking lake and have 2 kayaks...im just lazy.

im not really a GPS user, and dont think i will be, as adventure racing does not allow GPS to navigate, so its just never caught on with me.

ill stop rambling for now.

a picture of some of my AR team, im on the left with the white helmet and headlamp

Oddly, your brother looks more like you than you do in that pic. You look like a stoned you.

that pic was taken mid race, right after a 20 mile paddle, and during transition to a MTB leg, where i found my tire was flat..so i had to go and change a flat ASAP after that photo....i was a bit anxious

but yeah..john is always trying to get in front of me...and people always confuse us.

I think one of your races is more hours then I raced in 2013 total. You really have issues 🙂

70hrs on the mountain bike? we need to work on this. Start bringing your bike to work with you and working lights.

yeah i definitely need to up the bike volume this year. and i think that will be pretty easy actually...since aly doesnt get home from work until almost 9..that leaves the entire evening for me to bust my ass and put miles in

why is the dude on the left so pissed?

He's been trying to keep up with aaron jogging at 11mph average for 20miles...I would be furious...if I were still alive 🙂

I would like you to record one of these races just so I can hear the interaction between you and your brother. Its very entertaining.

Mahlon is my go-to place, so it could have been me. i try and get on the skis every time theres enough snow. Its surprising how many XC skiers there are up there though

hi mandi. you are making aly want to buy a house...please stop 🙂

Lifting weights.

i dont really do this, but Since i get a free gym membership with my job, i figured i would try and use the wintertime for some cross training and see how it goes. I found a recommended circuit for cycling from a cycling training book. it is as follows:

3 sets of 20-30 reps each

Hip extension (squat, leg press, or step up)

lat pull down

hip extension (different exercise than before)

chest press/push up

seated row

leg curl, knee extension, or heel raise

standing row

abdominal with twist

So ive done this circuit a few times now, but the problem is that i have no idea were to begin with weight loads. I feel like im probably going too light, but i dont want to try too much and risk an injury.

lately ive just been spending more time on the erg (rowing machine) at the gym...its rarely used so its always free. I rowed in highschool and my brother rowed for 8 years through HS and college, so im a bit more familiar with training on that. its not weight lifting, but i like the feeling of getting my heart rate up, and i can understand the number ouputs better. I know that proper weightlifting should give me good improvements, im just a bit perplexed as to if im really doing it optimally/correctly.
