I have always fancied those full wooden fenders when I was a commuting snob...
There are fenders out there that will work though. I forget the ones I had...
 
The wooden fenders by Civia aren't particularly expensive. I have a set on my bike and they work great and look better. We might have a set in stock if I remember correctly.

I could have used them last night. So far I'm on 5 weeks of biking to work and I don't even miss driving in much anymore.

Assuming you don't have fender eyelets, something like these will work if you run some smaller tires (hybrid or CX). 29er = 700c. http://ecom1.planetbike.com/7015.html

I've used both the planet bike speed ez and the regular mounts, both get the job done well. The full coverage is awesome.
 
I think I'm going to look into the GT Traffic Jay has at his shop. It looks like it has everything I'm looking for and I won't have to change anything on my MTB. Now if only this rain would stop.
 
A bit of a snowy ride into work last night but really nice weather on the way home. Getting used to pedaling through the lovely diesel stink on Finderne ave.
 
so one of my contractors from NYC called the other day and informed me they are closing shop after 55 years at the end of the month. He has some open work orders that need cleaning up. So I will be heading back to ABC for a couple days to help him out which brings me back to the most favorite thing about this, bike commuting. Soundz see you at 5:15 Monday...

Does anyone use a bottle cage specific coffee mug? They seem to be pretty sparse. I used an old Trek Soho mug (just the mug not the bike don't worry) for a long time but its pretty beat up now.
 
Eff winter

I'm so over this crap. Left work, snowing, no problem. 5 Minutes out, sleet, 20 minutes later, rain, back to sleet by the time I get home.

Winter can go die in a fire.

Better late than never, right?

I take a Trudeau vacuum thermos with me (the 17oz one) on the bike; it seems like everyone and their uncle has their own branded vacuum thermos that looks just like this one. Before I started using a frame bag, I had a lot of luck with the 6mm aluminum bottle cages. Bend it in a bit to snug it up, and drop the thermos in. Fit like a glove, and never once did I feel like it was going to come out. Granted, I commuted over pretty tame roads/paths, but it was in there.

If you want to be able to drink from it while on the bike, you're kinda SOL, though. Soma makes a holder that fits a Goodgrips OXO travel mug really well. The bar mount is a bit flimsy, though...
 
Did a nice 16 mile commute in this morning along the canal. The surface is really nice between Rocky Hill and 6 Mile. The fact that the ground was frozen definitely helped. I haven't ridden in a while (early January) so I forgot how to judge clothing properly. Hand were a bit cold, but that happens to me a lot. Reading Jim's thread on the Tuscabuskawhoseit race definitely made me a bit envious of his hands and their ability to stay warm.

After the whole Pannier vs Backpack thread, I decided to start with a backpack, since I owned one. Still not huge on carry the load on my back, but probably the best course of action until I decide exactly what I need to carry.

I can definitely get used to this. It's so much more relaxing than dodging potholes in my car on Canal Rd. Plus, I don't have to worry about squeezing in riding time. I have another 16 miles ahead of me for the ride home. If I keep this up, I might actually be in shape for 'cross season...hmmm.

I used this thermos (or something similar) and my coffee stayed warm and didn't bounce around much in my bottle cage.
 
oooohhh,.,. I think next week may be when I start the commute to / from work... I noticed it was light enough at 6:30am for me to feel secure enough that I will be seen...
 
Hey guys I know some of you get into Manhattan via the GWB. I'm trying to put together a relatively safe route from Summit to the bridge. I have not tested it out yet but I was hoping for some route suggestions before I venture out there. Has anyone ridden to the bridge from an area close to Summit? Thanks all.
