Equilibrium while traversing the Matrix

For the purposes of viewership on your blog...
Nobody cares about a fast Cat 2, trying to be a faster Cat 2.
What people will read about is a back-half Cat 1 trying to get faster to be a front half Cat 1, and ultimately a top step Cat 1.
I'm not personally familiar with your race results other than what's been posted here, but it seems like the community agrees you have huge potential, and it's time for you to accept the challenge.
If there's one thing I've learned about life as a grownup - no sense in putting off an upgrade, because you don't where life will be next season.

This doesn't sound like cat 2 training. This sounds like you are training for trench warfare in WWI.

@Norm Did you watch Nova last night too?

@Mountain Bike Mike Nice blog, mostly fine opinions from some fine minds. Frankly I am surprised if it helps you to put it all out there for all to see.

To me, if you feel like shit after 4days of a "new" regimen, you are doing something wrong. or somethings.

FWIW, my take after bingereading this, is you need to UPCAT, staying at/near the top in C2 for another year, with your mindset and personality, will do very little good compared to the challenges you are bound to face in C1. Regardless of how you do.

Thanks for sharing!

It makes me aggressive, it makes me mean, it makes me mad at my competitors - It makes me think - I sacrificed and put myself through this torture to race you - I'm not letting you beat me, I'm not wasting all this sacrifice and work. If yuo line up next to me - guess what I'm thinking and I usually have a big smile on my face. Fucked up, right?

I think we're missing the point.

Everyone is fixated on the amount of training he's doing for CAT 2 as if CAT 2 podiums or podiums in general is the only goal. It is not, not really.

Mike doesn't train "SO" he can compete. The training is and of itself a competition. The hard work and sacrifice, the process, the feeling that he's given more than he thought possible; THAT, is the reward. To focus solely on cat'ing up is to miss the forest for the trees.

Shit, that was too sappy.

Fuck it! Mike cut the shit, go have a beer and get a Fatbike!😛

Depends on which point they are trying to make. Not too long ago cat2 was known as “Sport” class. It was a class for weekend warriors, people who enjoyed racing and the competition but didn’t want to put in all the work of the Cat 1 (formerly Expert) folks. Things do evolve so you could say what he’s doing will be the norm for the cat 2 someday (and maybe he's a trend setter), but that’s not the spirit of the category. Shit most cat 1 guys aren’t even doing what he’s doing. It’s not like he’s some teenage who will be a top pro someday and shouldn’t move up because it might destroy his confidence getting beat up a bit. That’s just the progression of the sport for lots of people and you grow from it. I applaud him what he’s doing. I know how hard the work is and it’s draining, both mentally & physically and I hope he succeeds. But….

Dialing back the psycho and the seriousness.

Good stuff. Might want to add a small slice of fresh ginger to the smoothie.

Similar benefits as the turmeric and adds a little zing. 🙂

Great ride today. Started at Washington's Crossing, rode the tow path to Lambertville and then headed up the hill into Water Co trails. I had intentions of riding Water Co to Greenway trail to Baldpate and back to Washington's Crossing but Kev txt me this morning that Balpate was closed. He helped and suggested an alternate which worked out nicely.

Shout out to @capedoc for the heads up on the conditions and I also used the garmin loop he posted for this ride.

I hope to do this loop with Baldpate included because Dirt and Fun. Rather have more trail and less tow path.

I stopped around an hour in to take a short break, snap a pic, eat some fig newtons and drink some Gatorade.

I'm not sure why I didn't join you today actually...took me a while to get my ass in gear this morning anyway. Didn't start riding till noon.

You're not missing much at Baldpate anyways. Some fun, long downhill runs but otherwise dull. I add baldpate to my rides just as filler miles.

A couple weeks ago, you were all raging about Baldpate. I guess we convinced you that it sucked. 😉

When you compare tow path to baldpate, baldpate is the obvious option, specially if you want to add quick elevation to your ride.

I think baldpate gets a bad rap, if you consider that you can do 30+, off road miles if you link Washington cross, baldpate, greenway and water co all With a respectable amount of elevation and without much doubling back on trails, it is a very over looked option giving the geographic location.
