Jerseyman & J-Man Swim Athletes,
We hope this email finds everyone safe, happy, and healthy during this unprecedented time.
Because of the ongoing global pandemic hindering our ability to acquire permits, in addition to construction around the Reservoir closing roads on the bike course (
https://www.roundvalleyproject.com/), we have been forced to make the extremely difficult decision to cancel the Jerseyman Triathlon and J-Man Swim for 2021. We have been holding out hope that we could make these races happen for 2021 but with the significant restrictions around the state of NJ ongoing (including but not limited to event size limitations, permits not being accepted by State Parks until February at the earliest, etc), the construction, and USAT regulations on races, we have realized it just is not possible for this coming year. We are hopeful that we can bring back the event in 2022 but given the uncertainty that all businesses are operating with in today’s world, we are unsure if that will happen.
We have already incurred significant non-refundable costs including but not limited to shirts, awards, medals (all with 2020 on them), catering (which went out of business), etc. Like other local races and even Ironman triathlon, all athletes sign a waiver when registering that in the event a race is cancelled there will be no refunds. This policy for my race has been the same for years and unfortunately this year is no different.
Personally, I have been in the sport of triathlon for over 40 years and love putting on races to give back to the sport that gave so much to me so having to make this decision has not been an easy one for me. I appreciate everyone’s support over the years and I look forward to the time when we can all race safely again.
