This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

I am worried... not about getting sick... but with the allergy season coming up, I feel like there will be confusion and errors with ppl self diagnosing themselves.
As a seasonal allergy sufferer myself, I guess I am down to relying on fever as an indicating symptom. Not to mention.... scratching eyes with Purell covered hands. Thats gonna hurt...

All indications is that with this BS of a winter, pollen is gonna be brutal.

It's been allergy season here for the last 2 months. I've had symptoms on and off for weeks. Or maybe it's covid!

I keep telling my wife we're just going to have to embrace the suck. We're cancelling gym memberships, most kids programs and all that social type of stuff. The kids will have a less than stellar summer...oh well, life goes on. We're lucky that we both work remote already. I just hope that the govt is working with the health industry to stock up on what they need ahead of the inevitable spread. Stay safe, commuters and people in jobs where remote work isn't possible. My thoughts are with you and your families.

I'm sure myself, my wife, and my two kids would be fine if we had coronavirus. The problem is that my wife's mom, aunt's, and uncles all watch my kids while we work. And they ask are over 60, have diabetes and high blood pressure, and are probably squarely in the 20% death rate camp. And so are a lot of other people out in the community. So we've cancelled on all the upcoming parties we were supposed to be going to, birthday parties, baptisms, etc (we had a full weekend schedule through April). Aside from going to work and shopping for food, we'll be at home. Or hanging out doing outside activities that don't involve lots of people, hiking, biking, and other such things. I'm seriously considering not going to any of my races this year if this doesn't settle down. Which sucks, I am really looking forward to the wayway Xterra and the eagleman 70.3 I signed up for. But whatever, I feel doing my part to stop the spread of this thing is more important, all this stuff will come around again next year, and I don't want to kill the people that watch my kids, which is probably a likely scenario if we go about our daily lives like there isn't a pandemic going on around us.
I’m with you on this. Exactly why we all need to be careful. Even if you’re healthy, young and fit, someone else you know isn’t and could die because you accidentally gave them the virus.

I did a road ride with 2 people yesterday. Temps were in the 30's and all 3 of use were blowing snot rockets (my nose runs constantly while riding below 50). Not going to lie, it kinda grossed me out. As much as I hang back or swing out while blowing snot rockets, it just introduces alittle too much risk if someone sneezes or spits which on the front.

Just heard from a friend that the GFNY 2020 is canceled and unless the rider signed up for the cancellation insurance there’s no refund or transfer to another person.

At least they allow the registration to carry over to 2021

I agree with all the comments about too much panic but having to ramp down any activities and events we had planned and just stick to the basic activities like cycling (of course!) or letting the kids go out and play basketball (outside only). If everyone takes just a little personal responsibility to do their part and not assume they won’t get it or infect someone else even if they don’t have symptoms , this is really the only way to reduce the spread.

Someone else commented my same thoughts since my MIL is 79 and takes medications that suppress her immune system I am worried for her if she gets sick it could be bad even if she gets the flu. My wife is a teacher and only works part time so we will take a further financial hit if she’s not subbing but that’s a short term problem to deal with.

I hope no one here has to deal with this and your friends and families stay safe and healthy.

there may be an increased opportunity for private tutoring in the near future.
Any age - still risky, but maybe less than a classroom setting.

I have same thoughts, probably I'll suspend my weekly PFW rides for some time.

Enjoyed that Joe Rogan Experience episode. Informative and real. I'm 50/50 on closing schools or not.

A low rate of kids are getting sick from Covid19 but can they still get it and not show symptons and still be carriers?

Short of it of that episode is, just limit exposure to people, washing hands may help, eat and drink well, sleep, stay healthy, mask is good if you are sick

lol...im thinking about my life in the next few weeks.....I keep telling my wife we cant do anything bc everything is canceled.....but she keeps going to her giant office that has all the actual corona patients.

She also happens to be the least worried about this than anyone I know....and I dont worry about this stuff until she does. We have been limiting contact with older people in her family forever now......god, 15 years at least that I can recall....she would be very cautious around her parents, etc. especially in the winter.

Want to amend my "idiot" post. Me included, as last night I told wife I was going to the store today to stock up on hand sanitizers and disinfectants. She paused.....looked at me.....and said "idiot".

yes - go to 24 hour store at 3am when nobody is there, and they just stocked the shelves. #smart! 😀
