2015 Race Thread - Inspirational Title

Yeah you look ripe for picking, even I noticed you look leaner and meaner if that was possible. You should have a solid season and smart to have a shut down to avoid the dreaded burnout. What's the plan for a back up bike when the crackendale ruins your well thought out plan🙂

@pearl you are my favorite of the racing monkies and while it makes me disappoint that riding indoors counts as a streak you need to keep the sponsors happy, so I get it.

Aside from the racing, I vote for more riding the nice areas you live close to (sourlands and watching range) instead of the flatlands of near your work. Sure they are great for the workouts but bad for the mentals.

This is funny, but sadly also very true. Related to this, but not, when I raced for Fisher I cracked 6 SuperFly frames and 4 Paragons in 1.5 seasons. I spent many a time having new frames overnighted and rebuilding bikes in my basement the day before a race. I still have a few frames hanging in my basement.

Nothing to worry about...There is nothing Pearl's skinny ass is going to do to that frame that I didnt in the 4000 miles I rode it....That thing is battle hardened.

are we still talking about cracked cannondales? NEED I REMIND YOU?!

in all seriousness, i do have my alloy frame waiting in the wings and i almost feel confident enough that i could put it together by myself and have it work 85% correctly.

jim, was the BS50 the last time you rode a skinny tire mtb bike? you had some funny commentary that day. IIRC, you don't own one anymore, right? jumping in the water after the bearscat was so refreshing... i wonder if they will make the course the original longer version this year? thankfully i don't have to think about that since i'll still be in vacation mode by the time that race goes off 😉

mandi really has been kicking butt with making delicious food... i tapped out on any sort of weight loss once cross started, i'm floating around 147-150 and i don't see anything else falling off of me. or at least taking even more drastic measures to drop a couple of pounds. i don't think i need to. i even jumped on the egg breakfast in the morning, man them be filling. 2-3 depending on how i'm feeling. she also only buys healthy stuff at the grocery store so my exposure to really bad food is down so much. even got better at packing lunches too. mayo on the ham sandwich is bawlin.

what are the odds SSaP has snow on the ground?

@pearl W101 is special and the vibes here make it an event....we of course feed into that and help fuel that fire. I'm glad you had fun.

One year head down to Shen for the SM100, it's way FCKN awesome. Mohican 100 is a track you'd do really well on, super fun singletrack though it conflicts with the BS50...and the Transylvania Epic for me this year.

The course at True Grit is the toughest I've done. The vibe post race is meh, it has a sizeable 50 contingent and those ppl and long gone by the time I finish up. Holy hell the pre-ride makes it all worth while.

NOTE - Crystal Anthony and Dan Timmerman both did the Hampshire 100 late in the MTB season at the beginning of CX.

Good luck this years Pearl!!! It seems like yesterday you were strictly a 6 Mile local.

Quick question. Do you incorporate any weight training? I feel in some minds it is viewed as counterintuitive. Squats and deadlifts really can add power.

Take it for what it is. I dont have extensive training experience.🙂

Roth Rock is in State College PA, the Trail Mix Race is a 32 mile endurance event.

I have dreams of doing the TSE, I really think I would enjoy that. It sounds like W101 for a whole week, minus the 9 hour day 🙂 I see the future me doing these events as long weekends, not really training or aiming to do well at them, but to be out and riding my bicycle on a self guided tour of some awesome trails.

I have a feeling Timmerman could do Hampshire 100 and still crush me in a CX event the next day 🙂

I was looking at TSE next year, for 2016.... by any HUGE stretch that I could even possibly make it work with work, all the other logistics, work, being away etc... then I realized my sister is getting married that weekend that they usually have it. I wonder when the dates are for next year. So as unlikely as it originally was, it's even more unlikely 🙁

About the weight training, I really thought hard and long about attempting to do some sort of weights, but I never got around to it. Mostly I talked myself out of it on a daily basis. I just don't enjoy it. I mean, that is the point, no one truly enjoys working out or doing intervals or running or burpees. It's what you do in order to better yourself. It's kind of addictive at a point. I just can't get excited to pump iron or bench press things. From time to time, I do feel it as a weakness, whether my back, or my arms being fatigued. I'm sure it would be beneficial, but, meh.

If you didn't get to ride outside yesterday, I feel bad for you.

I decided after getting tied up at work to head home and get out instead of LBS-it with my missing bearing covers/washer problem. It was was suppose to be rain, thunder and miserable, but at 5:30, it wasn't. It was 60 degrees and mostly sunny. Not windy. Run inside, get geared up. I walked out of the house with my vest and arm warmers and suddenly realized I didn't need the vest. 15 minutes later, I realized I didn't need the arm warmers. With bare legs, gloves, arms, regular socks and sunglasses on, a light wind.... it was a surreal moment after a long winter. I seriously enjoyed being out and just riding my bike. It wasn't miserable, not one bit.

I was going over a roller and it overlooked a guardrail and a slight hill into farms of Hillsborough and it was just freaking beautiful. The sun was setting and it was warm as I could remember it. It almost felt muggy out. The smells of spring were in the air, I found the cold pockets of air near the rivers that made you have goosebumps. It was spring, it's coming. 3 months of crap riding and it's going to break, or it is breaking. I'm ready for it.

This guy, he's a poet.

Go register for the race, Whitman. I hear it's going to be bone dry.

Fat Bikes are the part of the norm now
The fat bike craze is probably just over its peak and over the next year - two years

Yesterday was a perfect example of why weather forecasts should not be used for making plans, especially when it comes to riding.
