2016-2017 Schedule time

Looks like NJBA Calendar is updated.
Marty CX moved to Sunday 10/23, Westwood is Sunday 11/13, and Sussex is Sunday 11/20.....

So Sussex is the same day as SuperCross day 2. How did that happen? In my VERY short CX career I've enjoyed doing all the NJBA races and HPCX and SuperCross with no conflict.
Maybe I can just blow the whole day and race both somehow.
That also makes two weekends in a row at Anthony Wayne Rec Area.

Doesn't look like the rules page for the CX Cup is updated though. I guess its anarchy this year.

so which ones is good for a first timer, in it just for fun?
need to throw in a date on the family calendar

MAC will have more people, I would do Nittany and sign up NOW
I will respectfully disagree here.
Nittany fields for Cat 5 could be 100+ people. Nothing worse than lining up at the back of 100 people when you have no idea what's going on. PLUS it's sort of a crappy venue for kids (lots of traffic, road right there, no playground nearby).
I know these races are later, but HPCX and Bubble are nice venues where 1) there are things to do for the kids near the course (playgrounds), 2) you have less worrying about kids running into the street, 3) fun course for racing on. Bubble will also have smaller field sizes.

I guess that is kind of the draw for me, I remember my first MAC race was at Whirlybird and I had a hoot of a time in a sprint finish for 32nd or something.

I guess my thought is that in the smaller fields you could really end up in no mans land and totally miss the enjoyment of what cross really is, battling for position on every single section of the course for 40 minutes.

Never thought about venues/kid friendly stuff, I guess I need to make another column 😉

I have to say Nittany a few years ago ruined my whole season. I think I did that race and did so poorly I just dropped out for the season.

It's an "easy" race as a Cat 5 person to line up near the back and race your race. It's a "hard" race as you'll struggle while getting lapped by whatever crit racers sandbagged that day.

It's a good first race in the fact that it's easy to get to, warm and probably dry, easy to deal with parking etc. Just realize that if you're coming into it with minimal fitness to not judge all the races by that race. If anything it's a good place to just get into the hang of things early in the season if you're not used to the logistics of racing. I think people forget the stupid little shit that make racing confusing. Getting your numbers, dealing with one-day-licenses, where to stage, WHERE TO STAGE, pre-riding, etc.

If you're starting in the last 5/5 of the race you're not dealing with people slamming their bars into you. Even if you're last, who GAF?

So still no updates on the NJBA CX Cup Rules page, but Bubble CX day 1 is the State Championship race? Reg opens tomorrow for Bubble Weekend. There are three more races after that, Bubble CX day 2, Westwood, and Sussex. Still no word on Mill Creek? Where will Hippo be?
Yay bikes!

So currently the confirmed NJ CX Cup events:

-Hippo Cross(ing) Oct. 1
-Caffeinated CX Oct. 2
-Marty's CX Oct. 23
-Bubble CX Nov. 5 & 6 (11/5 State Championship)
-Westwood CX Nov. 13
-Sussex CX Nov. 20

I also see that the start order is revised from 2015 on the Marty's page, but not Caffeinated and Bubble.

Combining the Womans A and Mens 3 seems like an interesting idea. Anyone have any strong feelings either way about this move?
